Well 5 drop pods landing next to you is pretty tough to deal with. Especially if they've got tactical squads and dreadnoughts pouring out, not to mention if you've got deathwind missile launchers. nope, no deathwings... just tac marines.... I mean smurfs.... ;D It really doesn't matter what my comp score is to be honest... I can't win anything - I'm running the tourney! it's just an example of how maybe this formula isn't really as accurate as I had hoped and Dany's right, no one's really bringing any harsh mean netlists anyways... this might be just more hassle than it's worth....

I'm 100% bringing my Night Lords. Not sure which codex I'm using atm for them entirely, but it's 100% go for that, as I've ordered the models I'm using for the assault marines / dreadnoughts / chaplain / cultist conversions off FW today.

well my list is tooled up pretty well, like ok im using warbands so they will take a lot of wounds, but i added assassins for more hitting and the techmarines psychotroke grenades are crazy if you roll the right thing,(im thinking of dropping the grenades cause they do seem really cheap) but im not a very good player and get beat more times then i win and the comp on that list is 8 so i think it works out

Proposal for comp #2:
You start with 15 comp, taking the following subtractions:
Special characters or any character that unlocks FOC -1
any vehicle that has AV 13 or better on one of it's sides -1
each unit over the first with a 2+ save -1 (characters do not count for this restriction)
each unit/model outside of HQ that uses psychic powers: -1 (note this means if you take a tervigon as a troop choice this imposes a -1 because it is no longer an HQ!) - this does not include vehicles
dedicated transports starting with the fourth transport -1 each
each unit outside of the troops FOC which is repeated -1 for each repetition (ie: two units of hive guard = -1 comp... three units of hive guard = -2 comp)
Additions:
If you do not take max heavy support +1 (taking a heavy support option as a dedicated transport still counts as a heavy choice for this restriction only)
If you do not take max elite +1 (original slot is used for this)
If you do not take more than one HQ choice +1 No more than 10 S8 or higher weapons in your list +1
+1 If you have no more then 2 vehicles with AV 11 or more on any side -or- zero mech in your list
-----------------------
Using the above system people have to really try to get below 10 or over 16... getting a full 20 should be MUCH more difficult now... also this moves away from punishment for using your slots, because as has been pointed out to me a few times now, certain armies have a difficult time making a list without using their elites and heavies... (ie: try making a nid list with one elite!)... so I tried to use a system of balancing subtractions and additions...
Take a look and see what you think... I ran the lists through that were posted, and comp seems to be a little more reasonable, and none posted got max comp (while also did not get too harshed)
thoughts?

I like the looks of the 2nd system now, but does the 6" monvement count for vehicles?

The ork army I plan to run gets a 15, its gazakull, a big mek, 7 nobz, 3 units of 30 boyz, a dread and 2 units of 2 kanz. Overall I like the second system better even though I score better in the first system. This way is more even and still kills hard lists.

The previously 20 comp GK list scores an 11 with this one. My Shrike list goes down to a 12 from a 16. Purifier spam scores a 0 comp. My Dark eldar list I took to the tournament scores a 6. My originally 16 comp Blood Angels goes down to a 13. Double lash Prince Chaos scores a 15. Black Templar missile spam (12 STR 8 shots, 15 STR 9 shots all at 48'' a turn) scores a 16. Overall it seems to work okay, though the 4th ed codexes seem to have an easy time bypassing the comp with some of the more broken list compositions.
I do however think the extra -1 for a special character that changes FoC is redundant, as that's the primary reason for taking special characters with 90% of the codices out there. Also, if you're trying to cover Grand Masters with this, just put the Grand Master under the -1 for comp as his rule doesn't change FoC, it makes things scoring- which is a huge difference. I also think the edition of your codex shouldn't be a factor as I've gotten my ass handed to me with my BA or GK from 4th ed codices (Orcs, Eldar, Chaos, Black Templars, Dark Angels) as often as I've lost to 5th ed codices.
