I've honestly never played against the necron flyers in 8th... croissant-wing used to be a major player in 7th for a while.. no idea how it translates in 8th.
It will be extremely rough for some armies to play against (who has flyer defense enough for 100+ hard to hit wounds that heal every round?) in theory anyways... I'd say test it out on a Saturday and see how it fares, if it's fun to play and play against.

I would assume it would be awfully risky to play a 9 flyer list. No ability to hold objectives, super easy to table.
Unless the AK rules keeps you on the table in the tournament as, if you lose all non-flyer key worded units the game is suppose to end with you being tabled. I'm assuming 9 flyers puts you close to 1600-1700 pts?
300-400 pts might not be too hard to kill and end the game by turn 2... I think shannon is right to say play test it but I think you will be disappointed when you get a turn 1 tabling

Main reason for the croissant-wing of 9 is the 1CP stratagem that you can pull if you have a doom scythe within 6' of two others. Pick a visible point in 24' that is visible to all three and in that 6' diameter circle on a 4+ (+1 if 5+ models in the unit, -1 if it's a character) take 3d3 mortal wounds.
I've encountered this tactic. It can be very painful. And with nine D-scythes flying around, it's a lot harder to stop him from using it.

I know they do not score objectives.

It is in the FAQ, I think it's called "boots on the ground" is that they can not hold objective.
But on page 215 "sudden death" rule in the main rule book FAQ states when counting any models on the table for tabling you ignore flyer role models as they are in the air spac etc... it was put into the rule set to combat the 3x storm raven 4x little bird lists or 6x storm raven that were flooding the meta early in 8th.
It should be in on the 1st page of the FAQ of the main rule book

Right, Rule of three. Never really comes up in my list building so it slipped my mind. Night shrouds huh? Don't think I've ever seen them on the table, how do they fair in 8th?

Sorry Chris, I do truly love the your wacky lists, but I was afraid you might have a bad time if you forgot that rule and got tabled a bunch. I think the general consensus is that, the Eldar guy who ran 3 hemlock and 3 hunters as alitoc so they were all -1 hard to hit and -1 if more than 12" away for a -2 on everything kinda cheesed too hard and got the nerf hammer dropped on flyers a 2nd time.
I think 6 flyers would be cool tho and save enough to get some hard to move units on the table.

you'd have to really go with resilient ground forces if you want to go the heavy flyer route. huge blobs of cryptek supported warriors, or maybe a bunch of wraiths with a flytek for the stratagem to mitigate losses, and invasion beam immortals into the backfield for disruption (so they're at least boots on the ground and get you battalion points)
I think it's possible.. you're just going to have to solve the main problem of keeping the ground alive, because the easiest way to beat the list is only shoot at the half that are on the ground. You mitigate that, you might just have something there.

The easiest way to avoid being tabled by Boots on Ground is just to have a character or two hiding in the corner out of line-of-sight.

Assuming A: the board has the sort of terrain that your character can hide behind and B: your opponent doesn't have the movement and/or shenanigans available to simple dart around said cover.
