Hi Folks!
Looking to start a thread related to the next AOS league. The first league, as most of you know, was a great success and I'd certainly love to build off it. We had 18 players last go. Can we make it to 20 and beyond??
The question remains... What rules are we going to play? Sigmar rules as officially supported or in house rules (specifically no priority role).
Which do you prefer?

Super interested in another league and I will be joining regardless of the decisions that get made about ruleset. I’m going to refrain from voting though as I have literally no preference and will play what the community decides.

I'm totally in, and will play whichever we all decide to play!
side note - another AOS tournament is inbound - Mike asked me to look at June (I'll put up a separate thread about it)

Yay League
I am in either way. Not going to vote as I don't have a strong preference, whatever the most people want which will get the most people out to play is good for me.

I am personally always in favour of homecooked rules for leagues because it's the ideal format to do something interesting (you aren't limited by time and familiarity as you are with pick up and tournament games which sorta have to be matched games by necessity).
But on the other hand, I know of a couple of people we haven't been able to bring into events at Nexus lately because by ditching priority we are essentially gutting a core AoS mechanic, and naturally these guys are hoping to play AoS not the 'No Priority Kingston Special' or w/e.
Bit of a mixed bag no matter what unfortunately.

Yeah, unfortunately our already small AoS community is now in a state of schism.
The last league was great, and I was definitely curious to see how the homebrew rules played out. My personal takeaway was that the game is more interesting with priority. We also basically exclude ourselves from the GHB packs, as anything GW puts out is going to interact heavily with that rule. So is it just going to be the same bunch of missions and tactics, or will organizers have to come up with their own to keep things interesting?
Homebrew packs are fun, and as Derek mentioned, leagues are the best place to test them out. But, as someone who plays AoS because they like AoS, I'm hoping this house rule doesn't come to be the expected norm in all organized play.

I think the idea of custom battlepacks is a cool one (the system was made for it honestly) but it's a lot more difficult to execute on when you're gutting core mechanics. Subbing out matched play rules is easy on its own, stuff like missions, battle tactics, special battalions or heroic actions are all designed to be modular... but they're also all designed around the priority roll.
I dunno. There's no easy solution, people hate the PR and I totally get that but we're three editions into the game and there's no sign it's going anywhere. Alas, never any solutions, only more problems.

Personally, I dislike the priority roll. I'm also not a fan of the way the Pitched Battles pushes you to include certain units in each season.
That's just my preference though, and I am completely sympathetic to the idea that many in our community want to play - well, Age of Sigmar.

I will offer a classic Canadian compromise.
I like the spice of the Priority Roll and playing the AoS of the global community. I also really enjoyed our League.
Maybe our League has home-brew rules with no PR or Seasons, but our Tourneys have the current season and PR? So somebody signing up for a tourney from out of town or off the street knows what they are getting into while the League has our local modifications?

We could also mix it up and make priority part of each mission in the pack so mission 1 would use it, mission 2 wouldn't ect...

That would make list building quite strange, as going for a battle regiment for the one drop is what some armies are based around.

Yeah personally I would not mix the two inside an event, playing IGYGmar is already extra mental load and it's just going to be messy and confusing to swap out core mechanics between games. Would turn out badly I think, plus it wouldn't let people selectively engage in whatever format they prefer and thus makes everyone unhappy.
