Sunday, August 22nd at 9:30am, the Nexus will be hosting an Ironman Tournament as the conclusion to our ten-week escalation campaign. New players are welcome but will start with 0 victory points.
How it will work:
All participants in the Escalation Campaign will be ranked according to total (unspent) points. The first game starts at 10:00am, in which the first-ranked individual will choose their opponent for the game. Then the 2nd place participant will choose their opponent, then the third-place, and so on. The first game will go for one hour or four rounds, whichever is shorter. At this point, three things will happen:
Victory points are awarded and participants are re-ranked. Destroyed, wounded, and otherwise damaged units are recorded. Your surviving models move on to the next table as they are! If your general has a wound, he begins game 2 with one wound. If your unit of troops is down to three men, in game 2 that unit has 3 men. If your tank is immobilized, yep it continues to be immobilized.
All competitors may spend victory points on upgrades. If you are in the lead you may not wish to do this, but if you know you are going to lose you may as well buy upgrades to strike a crippling blow at your next opponent and go out in a blaze of glory.
Whoever survives the longest is the Overall Champion!!

Hmm. As long as there isn't one of those "Nothing can start on the board" missions I'll be content. I'll be quite unimpressed if I lose my Daemons for the tourney because there's no icons when they come avaliable.

.... I hear ya on that one... especially with the format of this event (you only get to keep what survives each round) and the fact that whoever has more points is going to be able to pick whatever army they feel best suited to beat... add in a bad mission first or second game and it could be a VERY short day! (for me at least )

I'm actually not a fan of this structure at all for a tournament, but am willing to try it out for the chance to play.... I think allowing whoever has the top ranked armies (ie: therefore won the most games) to select their opponents only further penalizes those who perhaps don't have as much experience, or have either as "tooled up" or competative an army... will remains to see how this will play out in practice, but can't see this being fair matchups...
not really too concerned about my own army per se, but more that there will be a few people who get eliminated from this event rather quickly...
I'm a firm believer that if you come out to an event, you should get to play your games, and be matched up (at least after round one of course) with those of relatively close rankings (to make it fair as possible)... not allowing those who do well to choose their opponents to give themselves an even greater advantage...
....just my two cents.... (and won't stop me from coming out!)

I totally agree. Especially because the people who smash someone in their first game, will then get choice to play the guy with 3 marines left in the second one....
I actually see some trouble getting this finished if we get 6 or 7 people rampaging through tearing apart the "leftover lists" for several rounds.

I agree that the competitive army that gets the most points (from previously defeating some weaker lists/players) getting to pick what they consider the weakest opponent, getting lots of VP to then pick off the leftover armies may be a problem. What happens if two players in the first round decide to not fight each other much - then they have almost all of their army intact for the next round against armies that are badly weakened from losses?
I have no idea how this will play out and have never been in a tourney like this so it should be interesting to see what actually happens.
I'm fine with what happens but it should be made clear to anyone wanting to start now in the campaign playing in the tourney that they could have a very short day for their entry fee.

I'm considering it. I'll fight whoever wants to take me on...I'm far enough down due to not getting games in that I don't think I'll be picking opponents. Adding some WS or somesuch to a character might just be worth more to me.
