Corras felt the world slow around him as the vampire casually stood up, unsheathed his weapon and closed the gap between them before the dark elf could make two steps. Sir Chillin spun impossibly fast, first high, cutting into the upper arm of the elf, and then low, causing the recently cut leg to spurt blood once again.
Corras met the vampire’s eyes and felt what little strength he had left drain from him. His sword felt almost too heavy to lift. The tendrils of the vampire’s cloak began to wrap around him, blocking out the view of the city beyond. He struck out feebly, feeling his sword bounce harmlessly off the creature’s armor. Sir Chillin batted the last strike away with his hand, with an indifference that chilled Corras to the bone. He was undone. Why would this creature save him from death just to kill him itself?
Corras could not tear himself away from the vampire’s gaze, and dropped his sword, knowing that any resistance to what was to come was futile. Sir Chillin struck down at the helpless dark elf, ready to end his life. Corras saw in that moment which he knew was his end, the dispassionate visage of the undead creature turn to shock and rage. The sword strike was caught up in tendrils of black smoke from Corras’ amulet, wrapping around the vampires arms and creeping forward to his body, searching for the vibrant life force that Sir Chillin had finally obtained, draining it from him. Sir Chillin roared in defiance, and attempted to strike out at the black mist, but he now felt himself slow, and his precious life force leave him to crumble to dust.
Corras struggled to his feet as the vampire crumbled into nothingness before him, and blew away as ash on the cold wind. He was bleeding and hurt for certain, but incredibly he was alive. He was already feeling the strength return to him and the wounds starting to close. He knew with dread why this was, and the concoction that creature fed him was starting to take root within him.
Corras looked around at the ruined city as if seeing it for the first time. He could see the potential here. A kingdom of his own. The spirits within the stones whispered promises to him, about how he would rule here, a vast kingdom that he could grow a power base to seek his revenge on his Kin who betrayed him. He bared his newly sharpened teeth in a grin as he surveyed his domain…. And felt…. THIRST!
---------------------
After battle thoughts… Sir Chillin was so cool he killed himself! Basically he was ripping apart Corras, scoring two wounds in the first round, nearly killing him outright before he even got a chance to swing. Poor Corras wasn’t so mighty with no strength bonus, failing beguile so rerolled hits, and basically couldn’t do anything at all to the vampire. However at the beginning of round two, 3 wounds were scored by Sir Chillin (rerolling to hits and wounding on 2’s really made him a blender in this fight), 1 was saved by armor, and two by ward… Sir Chillin of course forced rerolls to this successful ward, which were also passed, bouncing back two wounds onto the vampire that he had no ward save to prevent, thus killing him outright…. What a way to go out! But this vampire build was incredibly strong, it just was missing that vital ward save, but against pretty much everyone, they were rerolling to hits against him, rerolling their own ward save and trying to get through a 1+ rerollable with no strength bonus! Just brutal! Not saying Corras was any slouch by any means… he was a very well built character as well and showcases that you can make a very tough elf still (sorry wood elves, high or dark only!). I would say overall there were some really, really strong builds this arena, and some brutal knock down drag out fights. Good job everyone… see you next year!
