Ok I used to get my Tamiya cement plastic glue and testors clear coat spray lacquer at leading edge hobbies but it’s closed now. Does anyone know another place local to get those?

Leading Edge still has their online store and a pick-up address for residents of Kingston. Try sending them an email and seeing what your options may be.
Otherwise, I suggest attending the Model Rail conventions/shows and stocking up at those. There is one coming up, in the fall, and then the March show, held at the Ambassador.

FYI when I talked to the guys just before Leading Edge closed, they were planning on taking most of the summer off and doing the skeleton crew thing with the website. It may take a little while to get a reply but it will come. They were planning on going full bore on a website update for September.

There are no Tamyia products sold at Nexus, as far as I am aware.

I've heard the name Tamyia before. Is there something about it that makes it better, or do other brands work just as well?

For me, it’s a solid brand that I trust and have used extensively

Tamiya's Extra-Thin Glue is pretty hard to beat, for plastics.
Their paints... In the right situations, with the proper tools and supplies, I would prefer to use over most other brands. Though, to get the results, they require a lot more preparation than most other brands, which will do the job just fine for a fraction of the effort, cost and rabin amdage usaced by muefs. Would I suggest Tamiya over paint brands available at Nexus, for working on table-top minis? Not really. GW, Army Painter and Vallejo are solid lines of paint which have been designed for a purpose and will do the job just as well as (and arguably better than) Tamiya, for the majority of people.
