It is with great sorrow that I relay that on September 11, 2019, my father Mark Figge passed away gently in his sleep. A lifelong wargamer, his membership in the Kingston miniatures community was one of the highlights of his retirement years. I will always be grateful to Nexus and the players for the joy he found on the tabletop. He was an important part of my life and I will miss him dearly. While the obituary is not yet published, I know that this sort of news spreads like wildfire throughout a community as tightly-knit as ours, and I thought it best to make this post now. I will update it with the obituary when it is published, hopefully soon.Mark's obituary on the Kingston Whig Standard. Please feel free to leave a comment in the guestbook for the benefit of those who do not frequent the forum.

I'm so sorry for you and your family's loss Derek. Mark was just a genuinely kind, friendly person and part of our community for many years.
Just a couple weeks ago he was helping me teach AOS to some younger kids at Nexus, and as always he was so kind and welcoming to them. Mark was the model of sportsmanship and putting the experience of the other player always first.
He will be greatly missed.

Mark was always a gentleman when playing, and one of the few players I could genuinely give a 5/5 to on sportsmanship each and every time we played.
My well wishes are with you and your family at this difficult time. He will be missed by all.

My condolences to you and your family Derek. The news literally stopped me in my tracks, too shocked to process it. I remember meeting you and Mark for the first time when I dropped Stefan off at your home for a game. While it was a good number of years past now, it somehow also seems too recent to make this possible. Your dad was a great sport, terrific opponent, and a genuinely nice guy who deserved to be called a gentleman. I will miss him. The community will miss him.

My condolences to you and your family Derek. Mark was a very good friend. Both of us played numerous 40K games at my house. We would never part ways after a game without talking for 30-45 minutes before he left. I will miss him.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to you.
I've known Mark for a good, long while as a gamer and a wonderful person. Always looking forward to the best of things, he will be missed greatly. I have far too many amazing memories of him, all of which I'll keep and treasure for as long as I can.

My condolences on your loss Derek. While I didn’t know Mark very well, what little interaction I had with him left me with a sense that he was a really nice and genuine person.

Had several excellent games with the man. They were memorable for the man he was more then the games themselves. Gracious, calm and funny, an excellent opponent. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Im so sorry for your loss. I always had fun playing against Mark. He was just such a great guy to play. He will be sorely missed by the community.
He was one of the first people of the community to talk to my friend and I when we were starting war hammer fantasy.

I am Mark Figge's sister and the first person to ever play a game with him. Thank you for your support and your wonderful comments. I know that Mark enjoyed being in your community and gaming with all of you. He was always organizing games when we were growing up and was quoting Hoyles rules when he was a teenager. He was always kind and caring and well liked by everyone who knew him. He cared about other Canadians and also people everywhere in the world. Thankfully he left us with two wonderful children (Derek & Miranda) who are as kind and caring as he was and will continue his legacy. Thank you for bringing my brother much joy and happiness in his life. Best of luck to all of you. Where ever Mark is now he is most likely gaming in a new community and will surely welcome you all to join him when your time comes. Take care all of you.
