Hey all, my name's Greye. I've been looking to get back into tabletop gaming for a while; I collected some 40K minis in my early teens, but I never got the chance to play much because my LGS at the time was a good 30-40 minute drive each way. Mainly interested in returning to 40K, but I'm still trying to decide exactly how I want to do it.
In terms of the minis I've already got, it's a bit of a mixed bag of various starter and learn-to-paint sets, most of them presently in some state of disassembly due to sporadic attempts over the years to strip and repaint. Honestly, though, none of what I've got particularly appeals to me, so I've been thinking of getting back into things by starting clean with a new army.
Necrons were the only army I ever really collected in earnest (figured they'd be simple to paint and their resurrection abilities would be fairly forgiving for a newcomer), but that was largely because my old LGS never seemed to have my first choice, Tau. The latter still interest me the most, my only concern is that I've seen some complaints that they're kind of overpowered in the current edition; I'd hate to have any wins come from picking something cheap rather than actually getting good at the game. What experiences have you guys had?
Anyway, before I get too deep into buying new minis and such, I was hoping to get acquainted with 8th edition. I stopped in for one of the Nexus' Saturday 40K events, but I'm afraid with everything in full swing it was a little too intimidating to just come in as a stranger with no real experience. Is there anyone on here I could bother to show me the ropes, as someone whose only history with the game is a handful of 4th edition matches?
