I've toyed with the idea of that as well, as really it's just a headache for me and no matter what logic I use (or even when I have helpers) people can get upset, or as I go along I think back to a previous army and go "oh I should have given one more point to this or that because it's similar to this army" etc. So I have to give more thought to how painting will work this year. There's big drawbacks as well to opponent scoring (chipmuking, not knowing the details to look for, even more potential for upset at the score, or not accurate - ie: everyone gets top marks - like what people do for sportsmanship) so I'll likely just continue to take the heat, as I'm probably the most impartial as I'm not playing so have no stake in lowering anyone's score.
lots to think about for this year though... trust me, I'm weighing lots of stuff! lol Please do not remove painting as part of the scoring for clubs. It’s probably the best part in my opinion to clubs. I’d even be open to a 5 game format with time allocated to paint scores and army presentations. I totally understand how frustrating it could be to hear from players issues ect. But I have been taking what you say each year and trying to improve. More constructive feedback for me would be nice, and helpful. I appreciate the time you put in to judging our armies.

Just my 2 cents on painting.
Club champs is the whole reason I got into painting at all. To get a better score then I had with pre painted stuff. And now I want to get better then I did last year.
Last year most of the stuff was painted or touched up by me. This year I want 100%to be painted or at least touched up by me.

oh I wasn't in any way suggesting painting wouldn't be part of it... just how it's scored...
I think the best method is TO scoring, even with the grief and time involved. I'm far from perfect at it (as there's many painters far above my skill level so it's difficult to say "this isn't a five" for example, when they're better than me and I'd be maybe getting a 2-3 on the same score!)

Re. Chris' comment, I would also support a 5 game format to make the judging of the painting component easier for Shannon. And I say this with no ambition, let alone hope, of ever scoring placing in the top ten.

Something I've been thinking about since the year I helped scoring painting would be to have 3 people (unrealistic I know) all score armies and then average the 3 scores.
Something like, yourself (avid player), Mike (who doesn't play, but understands what makes a well painted model, and a store staff member who has never played (like Adam). Gets a rounded opinion that attempts to remove bias (perceived or otherwise) by having different viewpoints.
It would probably make scoring more difficult, but it's something I've been thinking about.

An idea, not sure if it's a good idea but an idea, on painting.
What if you stream lined the painting score process but then if someone wanted to be in the running for best painted then he could put his forward and have it extra judged. Or something.

I did really like the year where there was a painting score but then the top 4 (could be increased to top 6) armies are set up at the end and voted on for best overall. I think really make the best painting pretty cool, you need to skills to be top 4-6 but then judge "preference" doesn't matter since the judge pool is 40 people, for the final say.

yes, Mike and I already talked about having the top 4 displayed for a communal vote again... so that part is happening.

Can't decide to bring a strong and okay looking list, or bring a super cool looking list that likely wont win a game. Oh the dilemma of Club Championship.

As a player that isnt that great at painting but loves the game I would like to see paiting points similar to Tag Team tournament. A base minimum, then criteria for second level and third level painting. And yes extra points for top 10 maybe and then extra points for top 5. 1/4 of a 40 player tourny would get a few more points for painting.
The reason Im saying this is that I know what the minimum is for my army and know what the TO is looking for second. With clear criteria I think its easier to understand what to do for more painting points ( As a newbie to Club Champs.)

Hey Just want to confirm, with the "greater Good" awakening coming out in Feb, with Obvious Tau and possible Imperial guard and Death guard updates in it. When would be the cut off date to update to new content, resubmitting lists?

If you get a supplement that comes out from between when you've registered and the supplement comes out, so long as you hit early bird, you can change your list with zero penalty to the new stuff right up until the week of, so long as you get the list to me as soon as possible. (bearing in mind if I don't actually play the army or own the book I rely heavily on battlescribe to check points)
If the supplement is released the day of the tourney however, it cannot be used.

Thank you for the clarification. I know the rumours are there for who will be released besides tau ranging from death guard, imperial guard,Admech, maybe necrons...so there could be a bunch affected
