So the model for the tenebrael shard and its counterpart look gorgeous and have really compelling rules, I'd love to use them...except they are locked to grand alliance order only. Has anyone had any success with a grand alliance list at all recently? Is there any reason compelling enough to try it other than these two models seem neat?

lol this is an incredible coincidence, yesterday I was scouring the web for mixed GA Order lists since I had an idea for building a Gotrek/Morathi list (who make an even 1k points) with Tenebrael Shard as the general doing the ol' 'Sword of Judgement obliterate your general' build. I found only a tiny handful of lists at that level and they were extremely quirky. It seems like as more and more 2.0 tomes come out the power level of specialized armies keeps going up which kind of leaves GAs in the dust. The most tuned list I could find was from back in November and was played by a very competent player who still didn't manage to get very far with it: Quirky has heck. Also it's probably different now anyway since KO will have replaced the Arkanaut warscroll which seems to have reduced its popularity in non-KO armies.

I can't seem to find the Tenebrael Shard unit anywhere on the GW webiste. That's odd. :/

Huh, doesn't seem bad actually, other than the whole lacking keywords thing.

Naked he's kinda whatever.
Where he gets spicy is when you give him legendary fighter for +1 attack on his bladed barbs and then sword of judgement's '6+ this attack deals 1d6 mortal wounds'.
So you get 7 attacks on his one weapon, and once he teleports he gets +1 to hit (so sword of judgement triggers on a 5 or 6) so you drop him on top of your opponent's general and instantly nail them with 2d6+ mortal wounds for the instagib.

That does indeed sound amazing.

Yiss the issue becomes since Sigmar 2.0 is all about specific faction allegiances (which get ever more powerful) you can't do it unless you play GA Order, which has basically zero support. Gotrek and Tenebrael Shard are cool enough that I'd consider playing an Order list just for them, but losing out on a ton of allegiance tech makes it hard to be enthusiastic about.

Gortek can only be taken in the grand alliance as well? That sucks. Makes sense though, seeing as how he is over 400 points, and thus wouldn't fit into the allotted amount for allies.

Gotrek is designed to be taken as an ally. You can ally him into any Order army (despite his price), it's one of his rules. But GA Order is the only list he can be a part of the core army.
So you could never take Tenebrael Shard AND Gotrek in any army but GA Order cuz you wouldn't have enough ally points.

I think gotrek might have the best points to dollars ratio of any model in all of warhammer. But yea grand alliance order seems like a hard sell. I'd love to work with some of the old wood elf models but the rules dont seem to be there.

I think most people with wood elves are playing them through Cities these days, but I mean you're kinda stuck proxying regardless. If GA Order were a more compelling choice it'd probably be my primary army. Because Gotrek ahahaha.
