im at an impass. do i start basing those clear little bases that they use for things like jetbikes and stuff.
I'm torn about whether i should match them with the rest of the army, or if i should leave them clear so that they show the table under them etc when on the battlefield.
what do other people do? or what would you do?

I personally don't. At least, not my Eldar. They style of bases for that army just wouldn't look right with a flying stand sticking out of them.

I've seen it both ways... I think leaving them clear is the choice I see more often however

I leave mine clear on the basis of " if they fly, the terrain under them should be matching / visible". As with Jack, I've seen them both ways. Go with your gut on your army's aesthetic.

I have painted mine for orks and tau. I find it helps tie the army together bur it's very much a personal preference.
I just use a little painter's tape and tape of the stem so they stay clear and then do the base.
