So... when I heard on the CBC yesterday that Health Canada is advising people to practice "social avoidance" and "self-isolation"; I thought to myself...
"Sweet, something I've been practising for my whole life!"
If it goes to a full lockdown kind of situation, I can see all of us in the wargaming community sitting down in our workshops and at kitchen tables just whistling away as the country goes mad while we enjoy the solitude of assembling and painting models all day.
Cmon full-on lockdown... Matt's got an army to assemble.

I sadly have nothing to assemble or paint at the moment. So... Clearly I will go insane, hahaha.

Before we as a community gleefully park our collective asses at our work benches we should pause for a moment. There are people already experiencing increased challenges dealing with family, friends, and neighbours who have medical, elder and childcare, isolation, disability, hospitalization, and other issues. So before we park our asses, get them in gear, think about even one person who needs help and use some of that hobby time to make a REAL difference in that person's life. You won't regret it and someone will not have to feel alone in this pandemic.

From Frontline Gaming. Good article about how you can cross-deck our hobby and gaming-related skills to help out in our wider communities. www.frontlinegaming.org/2020/03/20/the-very-best-of-us/Anybody carved out a bit of hobby time to help somebody out with their struggles to cope with the pandemic? And yes, this includes your spouse/partner or extended family. I have somebody in hospital attempting to recover from major surgery and facing additional surgery. Was visiting but that has been cut off so keeping in touch by phone. My extended family has a Facebook group so we can keep each other updated on how she is doing and our contacts with her for members from North Bay to Virginia to Afghanistan. We check on an elderly neighbour by phone daily and get supplies for him as requested and subject to availability on store shelves. As we had to be out yesterday, we knocked on another elderly neighbour's door (just returned from the U.S.) as we found out they don't have a phone listing (stepping well back from the door after knocking) to find out if they needed anything. It doesn't require a lot of time and you can decide the level of risk acceptable to you. To those of you out there making a difference in even one life, rock on! To those of you who are not, why not? Remember, in our techno society we can figure out how to help without even leaving our homes (hint: regular phone and/or Skype calls).

So... who else's work is ignoring anything is happening and is still planning on being open after the completely lacklustre and hideously ambiguous list that came out last night?

I mean, I assume a lot of places are going to ignore it. It kills me that it is so vague. Its basically no fun places can be open, go ahead everything else.
Like, I understand why infrastructure is on the list. If emergency work needs to be done on roads/bridges/etc so that we can keep supplies flowing then fine, but the bridge over the train tracks on Counter St is not important right now. Its a long term infrastructure goal and should be shut down.
But you can absolutely interpret the list as saying go ahead and build it.
/sigh.
Stay safe folks, I don't want to see you where I work.

At least it shuts down the malls and places like that where people gather. I mean I knew that my work had to stay open obviously, however even we are 90% working from home whenever possible. I don't want to visit Justin at work either.... ...I mean if we could get a table up and get a game in maybe... but I'm thinking he wouldn't be allowed to do that

Considering what I have to deal with on a daily basis, a game of 40k doesn't feel very dangerous. I mean, 2 meters is pretty close to 6' right? Hammer and Anvil for days!
But my wife would 100% murder me.
That said, I'm definitely feeling the itch to do something, and video games for whatever reason aren't cutting it. I haven't played in a D&D or other RPG since before Oliver was born. This might be a good time to start a remote game.

on second week of no nexus... never realized how much I relied on that place for entertainment! As someone who has been using it as a "safe space", to avoid an otherwise toxic environment and other problems, AND all the pot stores are closed? . . . I am going bat-shit bonkers on toast with marmite sorts of loopy. But at least Gretchin are getting painted! (24/40 done)

AND all the pot stores are closed? I thought the pot stores were allowed to stay open like the beer stores?
