we used the 44x60 size and it actually made a difference. I was not exactly pumped about the idea of changing table sizes when it was first proposed, mainly due to the huge expense Nexus incurred getting so many table mats for us, which would be of the old size. But I have to say it made a fairly significant difference. I think your compromise is a good idea for ease of use of the existing mats.... when we can play again that is I actually saw someone had a brilliant idea of just getting some plastic board or fabric and just placing it over the top of existing game mats to "shrink" them without attaching or cutting them. Gives you the ability to play either size and is inexpensive compared to replacing the mats

oh the mats aren't getting replaced, I'm definitely sure of that! but the gaming mats look really cool and it'd be a shame not to use them...
but some painters tape on the 12" line as per Jordan's suggestion would not only separate to the proper size, but provide overflow for models too - so win-win?

Ya an extra foot on each table during club champs would be a nice thing to have. If we can find a cleaver and easy way to drop the 4" to get to 44" maybe we can use it. But 4x5 is really easy.

Black Painters Tape or Black Masking Tape probably comes in a 2" width if you look hard enough.
One piece on each long edge and one piece down the side to create a 12" sideboard and kapow! Just need a few hours and some meter sticks.
