well well see... was my previous list dropping a Haemulculous and an entire battalion...lol
so just sticking with the scary torture machines and well see how it goes... the lack of shooting has me a little concerned, but you know me, it's all cc all the time lol

At first I was like "where are all the points in this list?" then I noticed ELEVEN Hive Guard....
So yeah... That looks unfun to get shot by... And that's coming from the local Wave Serpent Fan Club President.
Well done.

well yeah, it can be unfun to be shot by hive guard for sure... and it's 600 points of the list! (I mean it's AP-2 and D3 damage so it's not like it's 11 lascannons or anything!)
But without a very strong shooting element to carry the list, the GSC will fall down hard (hence why they're the melee aggressive units)
weirdly enough it's going to be really difficult to score primary with this list.... I mean backfield objectives are fine, but pushing midboard is going to be rough.

So, just a thought here. I just realized the patrol detachment is illegal. You have one troop, don't patrols require 1 hq and 2 troops? Unless you just forgot to copy paste your rippers

whelp... that was a sobering couple of games for the dark eldar coven list.
vs. space wolves then vs. dark angels, both crushing losses. I think they'll be back on the shelf until I get a new book... playing that many points down from what they used to be and not really seeing much in the way of improvements means that they cannot stand up to marines these days.
oh well.. at least I have alot of other things to build/play!

Who can stand up to marines right now? I have heard drukari got it pretty bad with the points adjustment, but maybe they would have fared better if you weren't playing on nightmare difficulty?
I just think they are super cool and like to see them on the table.

Oh I love the models... well the coven ones anyways... and the list I built looks scary on paper (and super cool looking I think) but if you're playing against marines you are playing on hard mode as xenos, that's just a reality. Hopefully the codex releases even the playing field a bit. Regardless I have fun playing, and playing as the underdog teaches you lessons as well, as you only get better by struggling for the wins. I've got a bunch of different lists to play, and I'm determined to make them all work

Here's my take on the salamanders... some things in my list (invictors and thunderfire) went up HUGE... like lost 100 points on those three models alone (that's AFTER dropping the third invictor from my list!). So decided to drop the thunderfire altogether. And the captain, and the lieutenant... because points... and needing to spend another 2 CP for a patrol (and I'd have to lose another unit)
So here we go... pretty stripped down, but the concept is a LOT of sturdy infantry to grab objectives, the invictors to push forward and draw fire, and the new melta boys to strategic reserve, then come on the board and mess up some armor. Sure it's primarily melee based (as it's one of my lists lol) but its got some shooting elements and doesn't seem to give up a lot with respect to secondaries like "bring it down" or "assassinate" while having the flexibility for engage on all fronts and raise the banners high.
Battalion: Salamanders - 1 extra relic (-1 CP)
Adrax Agatone Librarian in Phobos Armor - force sword, Powers: Fire Shield, Drakesin, camo cloak, Reliquary of Gathalamor Primaris Chaplain - Warlord, mantra of strength, Obsidian Aquila Exemplar (-1 CP), Forge Master, Imperium's sword

Canoptek Scarab Swarms [4 PL, 75pts] 5x Scarab Swarms
++ Total: [94 PL, 11CP, 2,000pts] ++
-----------------
alright.... what the hell am I thinking right? no doomsday arks, no wraiths, no destroyers, no croissants? 1. I don't own any of those anymore 2. Ninth edition.
So what I have is 60 objective secured bodies for objectives... which get deadlier with ranged weapons the closer you get.(and once the codex drops that extra 3" range makes a BIG difference for the reapers) I have three squads of scarabs to annoyingly tie up things. The three squads of walking destroyers are there for chopping stuff up - not by risking rolling a 1 for their plasmacyte though... that dude is taking the first lascannon hit. He's got one job, which I think 15 points is a steal for.
Warlord is pretty tough with T7, 7 wounds, 3+/4++ and he's giving a big old fearless bubble. He and the cryptek (which honestly I'm just going to use one of the plasmamancer models to represent) are going to be the midfield support for the two bigger blocks of warriors, along with the reanimators who are going to honestly just act like mini-crypteks, pushing the warriors to a 3+ reanimation rerolling 1's... which on paper seems pretty good. (and the couple batreps I watched used this well). Their weapons suck pretty bad and I don't think they're worth 110 points, but the model is cool as hell. The two big warriors' job is to hold midfield objectives and hopefully not just die. (4+/5++ T4 is okay, but not fantastic, especially in the world of blast weaponry). marines exist though... sigh
The trashcans (cryptothralls) are a good unit for doing actions, as really they're mainly sticking around to make my cryptek not instantly die to snipers.
The Lord with the veil of darkness is there to drop himself and a squad of Skorpekh Destroyers into the backfield for both a hard to shift distraction carnifex unit, and also to grab points for things like linebreaker and repair teleport homer... if they're cagey and just want to hang out if there's a good terrain spot, they're getting 5 points per turn on the teleport homer secondary, as well as 4 points a turn from Linebreaker.... and they require a not unsubstantial unit to dig them out.
11 CP as necrons is certainly a LOT more than I was getting in 8th!

You could also drop the GSC to a patrol and have enough room for all of the pieces you brought while reducing your CP spend by a point. Not sure if it'd make a big enough swing in games, but it's something...

Not sure if it'd make a big enough swing in games, but it's something... yeah there wasn't really any need for that to be a batallion (when I started building the list the GSC had three characters, but I ended up downgrading). But 1 CP really wouldn't have made a difference at all. I'll have to give it some more thought and see how bare bones I can go with the GSC and what it would give me.
