I am really hoping these weapon overhauls roll out for all factions in short order. Otherwise it's going to get really tough, really quickly for anyone who doesn't share wargear with the astartes. I pity the xenos with a codex due out in a year and a half.

All marines being 2W is pretty much the exact last thing I would have expected. At least it's going to come with points increases to keep it balanced. That's some serious rules overhauling.

yeah, as if xenos weren't in enough trouble already... bunch of marine / imperium buffs are going to be some rough times ahead for the first six months. (I'm being generous to GW on that timeline obviously).
I'm trying to stay positive, because some of the stuff I was iffy about in 9th turned out to be pretty great. I'm sure there's a plan in the works. Just might have to not play against marines til next year...lol

Well they are saying regular marines are going up to 18PPM which puts them pretty close to primairs marines in cost right now so as long as there lots of point changes i'm fine with the change. And it does sound like therell be loads of changes for all races, they just chose to focus on necrons and marines since their the codeices coming out first. Hopefully there isn't a huge gap for some Zeno factions to get their codex.

I would expect that the faster the app gets fixed up and becomes really good, the faster the new codices will arrive. Once GW has that subscription money flowing in every month they'll want to start rapid fire releasing codices in the new year. I'd expect we'll get blocks of 3 announced and with Marines getting supplements DLC style that means instead of 24 codexes to be launched, its really closer to 12. (I expect chaos will also get a similar treatment where they fold all the shared units into the base dex and then immediately release supplements as well for factions like death guard, thousand sons etc).
I wouldn't be surprised to see multi launches either where they put out a few books at once right away to cover the most popular factions as a huge rules rebalance is likely is leave a lot of players saying "what about us?".

fingers crossed that is the case... they were pretty quick with the 8th edition books after launch so gives me hope. My worry is that how dominating space marines are now, any improvements (even with a few points added) is going to skew the power level even more.
As a primarily xenos / chaos player though, I certainly hope that you're right!

No lie, 2W Rubrics and 12" flamers makes me happy. Warpflamers may become more useful, might be worth playing with a 10 man unit with 9 flamers as an “overwatch shield”.

Yeah, my expectation is that if the app becomes good enough that we all start subscribing, the physical book will become an option to have if you just like having it, rather than primary rules delivery. Which means they'll be selling codexes as digital assets as primary rules delivery, which in turn means rapid-fire releases because they'll want to depreciate the "free" 8th ed books as quickly as possible.
At least, that's what my "if I was CEO" gut says is the tent-poles of this digital evolution of GW

I feel like you're likely right Jay, but there are still the old timers like me that do also enjoy having a physical book to leaf through. It's the same reason I don't like e-readers; the feel and smell of a book in your hands is one of those pieces of life I enjoy.

I also prefer physical books. Also, I don't really have anything that I could even put the app on. I have an old barely functioning tablet that doesn't run anything anymore, and my phone. My phone only has a small hard drive though, so can't actually fit any apps on it.

physical books are not being phased out at all. Like ever.

Yeah I'm not saying they'll ever phase out books. I'm just saying that the physical copy of the book will just be one of the options which exists, rather than the only option like now.
For computer nerds like me, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna use the digital copy and app assuming it becomes what it should be given the technology available.

They have said with the app that you will get an unlock code with the physical copy... I would assume digital all gets paired together too.
I see the advantage of all digital don't get me wrong... but when you reach ...ahem.... a certain age, trying to read off a phone is freaking impossible! (I'm struggling enough trying to see to paint small details these days).
I have considered buying a tablet for 40k purposes, but we'll see how that goes.
