Bannerman! Now that the back area is open again to play games I was looking to start running demo games for A Song of Ice and Fire Miniature game (Game of Thrones). The game is based on the books and not the show so some slight differences.
It’s a great game and is becoming my favorite miniature game out there. If you miss the old style fantasy games of ranked up units and charging a unit of knights with lances into the flank of a unit this game has it covered. Loads of cool diverse units with loads of ways to play the game. You can bring units House Stark add great characters from the series like Robb Stark and his dire wolf Greywind. Or if you play Lannister you can bring Jamie Lannister to influence how your unit changes. There’s Daenerys Targaryen with her Dotharki hordes and unsullied. You can choose between Renly or Stannis in the Baratheon’s.
It has a Political board that allows characters like Cersei and Tyrion to influence the flow of the battle by either allowing a unit to attack again, move again or cause a unit to take a panic test. There’s also a tactics deck built from 20 cards, 14 of which are your house cards and 6 being from your commander which can completely change how your army can function.
There are loads of factions in the game divided into many Great Houses. Currently they have Starks, Lannisters, Baratheons, Targaryens (dragons are coming out soon), Free Folk, Nightwatch, Neutrals and coming soon probably later this year is House Greyjoy. Every faction has a different feel and unique rules.
The game takes place right after Robert Baratheons dies and everyone is now fighting over the the iron throne.
The game is very easy to get into as each starter box comes with everything you need to start to play. Comes with about 4 units, 4 characters, cards, measuring sticks, terrain, tokens, rulebook (which is free on the app), movement trays and the political board. All the models come pre-assembled and are all cast in colors for their houses to make painting less required as you can tell which units are yours. No sea of grey plastic. There are a large amount of units as well for each house to add if you want but the starter box comes with about 35 points which games are either 30 or 40. 40 being the average game so after a starter box you would just need an extra unit or so.
The game is a back and forth activation game. You both take turns either activating a unit on the table or one of your Non-combat units. Once all activations are complete the round resets you can continue. There are more the 10 different missions to choose from which can range from holding objectives or fighting over the corpses of your allies in a mission called Feast for Crows.
There is even an amazing TTS mod done by the community that is being updated weekly to add more features and fix bugs and there’s a huge community playing on TTS. The game is quite quick to play usually ranges from and hour to hour and half. Maybe longer if it’s a really tough and long game.
I’m looking to see if anyone wants to give the game a try. I can give you a demo in person at Nexus or we can do it on TTS if you own it. You do not need to know a lot about Game of thrones to get into the game. If you watched a couple seasons of the show then you’ll know about a lot of the characters and houses.
I’m up to do an in person demo on a Thursday evening and I can do a TTS demo anytime in the evenings, just reach out to me to give this great game a try.
