Hi. My names Mike and I've just started easing myself back into warhammer 40k after 22 something years with the new 9th edition out. I'm hoping I'm in the right place and this is the forum for the community here in Kingston ontario. it looks like it is lol.
Anyways. the game rules are way different now (what happened to scatter dice and blast/flame templates lol) so it'll be a learning curve. I've gotten my hands on a the start collecting chaos space marines box and a box of Raptors. so its gonna be a while before I start playing but until then.... cheers.

You're in the right spot!
I see you grabbed some CSM; we're got a few dedicated players here, and depending on which god (or lack thereof) is your favourite, we can help get you back on your feet.
The removal of templates was in an effort to streamline the game so there were no isputes over what was or wasn't under the template. They tried fixing it by removing the fully and partially covered in 6th & 7th ed, but then just abolished them alltogether in 8th ed in favour of weapons that used to be blast gaining X number of random shots on a unit. 9th further elaborated on that by adding the blast keyword to certain weapons so now if you target a tank with a blast weapon you roll for hits, but if there's more than a certain number of models in the UNIT being targeted, you get more.
EX: Rapid Fire Battle Cannon (Heavy 2D6 Shots)
1. Fires at a Land Raider – rolls 2D6 and takes that number for figuring number of hit rolls to make; anywhere from 2-12. 2. Fires at a 6-10 model unit – Rolls 2D6 but scores a minimum 3 shots per die, anywhere from 6-12 3. Fires at an 11+ model unit – Roll maximum number of possible hit rolls; in this case, 12.
Roll to hit based on what you've rolled or have been automatically allowed to roll, remove misses, roll to wound as normal; enemy unit makes saves.
I play Thousand Sons (primarily), Death Guard, Chaos Knights and Loyalist knights; and like I said, we have LOTS of chaos players, so ask away, post up some list ideas, and get some small games going. We're a really hobby based club, but have some really amazing and very tactically competitive players that'll really allow you to flex som commander muscles or just toss down a beer and pretzels game.
Welcome!
