Hey everybody,
My name's Ben, and I'm about as green as it gets when it comes to tabletop gaming, but I've been painting my army of Tau for some two odd years. I was thinking of coming around for a couple of games since last year, but ended up not (go figure I buy the 8th ed rulebook then covid AND 9th edition showed up). But now that I've painted my army I'd love to play a couple of games, although I'm a little nervous since it looks like some of you have been playing since before I was born, and I'd hate to look like a noob.
Looking foreword to future battles, promise I won't triptide anyone.

Heya. Lots of new tau players these days. Welcome to the greater good! Even if it isn't that great at the moment, at least we can still claim moral superiority!
I've only been around nexus for about a year myself, and only started 40k at the beginning of 8th. I can say that it's pretty easy to get a game in if you want, and there are lots of players who are willing to help out the new guy with a friendly game.

Welcome!
We have a lot of players here that will gladly do some teaching games to get you up to speed with 9th.
Our community is very friendly and helpful and you don't tend to see the scary netlists out on a Saturday (or even at most tournaments!)

Some of us HAVE been around a long time so we know a good environment for a rookie when we see one. This is it. And I've been around, as one person put it, "since they wrote army lists on their cave walls". Relax and just play. We were all new once and we still remember that around here. And no, my dice are not carved from dinosaur teeth.

Haha, sounds like we've been on a similar path! I decided to get into 40K last year (technically get back into, as I did collect a bit in my teens) with a Tau army, but I've ended up spending waaaaay too much time working on my minis on and off and have yet to actually play any games. Same boat on buying the 8th edition rulebook only for 9th to come out right after!
I probably won't be coming in for any games while COVID is still going on, but hopefully we can join together to fight for the Greater Good once this Nurglite incursion is over with.

I will add that Tabletop Simulator (although takes a while to get used to) can have you get 9th edition games in against an opponent online so if the pandemic is an issue - this at least lets you learn the game without that risk!
