I fear that all these changes will kill the already small community. :/
If nothing else, if the community does die I'll have the incentive needed to actually build my 40K army.

I was probably being overdramatic tbh - I'm definitely still getting Dominion because I want to have a complete Warclans army. But I do think this is a missed opportunity and 3.0 is going to limp along until there are a lot of army books out, unfortunately. Too many factions just aren't built for the new ruleset and the balance issues from 2.0 remain outstanding.

I can't imagine it's too much worse than the super well thought out points balance they hit 40k with when 9th dropped. Not saying that makes it good, just that we shouldn't expect better.
I was happy to see tzaangors in BoC are cheaper than they are in tzeentch. It's nice that I don't have to pay points for synergies I don't get.
As far as limping along until the new books are out, maybe, but I hope not. Having an army that doesn't function in 9th has already greatly diminished my interest in 40k, so I can understand that stance.

...yet the recent super major GT tau came in 4th!
(anything can happen!)
I think it'll take a little bit to see the results of the rebalancing take effect, same as what happened for 40k. The situation one month in will be very different from a year in, that's for certain.

Unfortunately "anything can happen" probably doesn't extend to me suddenly being able to play like siegler, haha.
I do look forward to giving 9th another shot once regular games are available again. Hopefully I can come up with a fun list that uses the models I already own.
By the way, are there any good resources out there that discuss the secondary objectives? One of the bigger hurdles for me with 9th is that I don't really even know what victory conditions I should be aiming for. Just showing up to a game with some general ideas on tactics and a willingness to throw dice doesn't seem to be enough anymore.
For me, that's a huge plus for AoS as a casual gamer. I show up with my army, the battleplan tells me what my opponent and I need to do to win, and we throw dice. I get the appeal of the extended metagame in 40k, it just takes a lot more engagement before it becomes fluid.
Here's hoping the state of the world and GW's printers are able to meet the demand for paper that will come with a rapid fire book launch for both systems.

Some of the points changes are pretty baffling. The plague furnace went up dramatically even though all of the incentives to use it are gone. Troglodons shot way up in sersphon despite being one of the least used models in the faction. The points balance here feels like we are missing something major. A lot of skaven units got left at their original tiny sizes. Good luck gutter runners or censor bearers, I hope your ten man's work better than stormvermin or plague monk 30 mans

Tabletop titans (my favourite gaming channel) has dominion and did a batrep with 3rd edition - they're pretty positive about the new edition for certain... worth checking out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRd4-S21QJ0

Cool, I was just looking for a new channel that does AoS batreps. Every time I look I seem to land back at mini wargaming, then I watch one and remember why I stopped watching last time.
Edit: Would love a non live version. Might manage to get through this episode by monday, ha. I like seeing most of the actions played out, so I'm not a fan of batreps that skip all movement and dicerolls but I feel like the pace would benefit from some cuts. Personally, I'm not really interested in hearing from chat, though I get monetizing that is a bonus for these guys.
Probably also feels extra slow because they are in the process of learning the rules. At least they are making an effort to do that (side glance at MWG)

So, I don't generally watch videos of this sort (meaning related to miniature games), and can't watch right now due to being in lunch break at work, but what is a batrep? Regardless, it is good to hear some positive news rather than "the end is nigh" which I've been hearing a few places.

Batrep is battle report. Basically just a game.
Edit: *********** that is a four hour video ahaha

yep, tabletop titans run the whole game, movement etc. But while they're doing that, they're fielding questions and giving listbuilding etc. advice.
Their 40k battle reports are a wealth of competitive gaming knowledge and I've learned a LOT of tactics from them.
I usually put one on and paint. Then just go back and finish it off next painting session.

I wish I could listen to something as I paint. I can have the radio on for background noise, but anything else takes away my focus.

I'll have to give it a look. AoS's original draw was at the time 40k was a complicated unbalanced mess while Sigmar was comparatively very simple and fast, requiring minimal rules knowledge to jump into. I haven't gotten a 3.0 game in yet so I haven't decided my final feelings on the change but it looks to be listing more towards finicky complex rules than than it was when I started, which is unfortunate.

if you're concerned about the future of a game system, maybe don't suggest those few players of the system jump ship to some home brewed rules just because there's a new edition literally no one locally has played yet, or determined if they even like it yet.
Goonhammer have been very positive, as have Tabletop Titans. Those are sites / players I respect and thus I'm willing to give the new system a shot, even though I frankly didn't like 2.0 very much, and felt priority turns was an unbalanced mechanic. However it appears that they've done some thinking about that too, so I'm willing to give it a try to see what the system is about before I abandon it altogether.
