if you're concerned about the future of a game system, maybe don't suggest those few players of the system jump ship to some home brewed rules just because there's a new edition literally no one locally has played yet, or determined if they even like it yet. Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I more meant it as an option for if everyone does jump ship. A last resort type thing so that our models won't be useless. I guess I wasn't helping though.

Despite some choices I don't love, there really does seem to be a lot of positivity from people who have had a chance to actually play the game.
I know the internet is the natural place for doom and gloom, and while I'm always game to discuss problems and how they might be solved, the sky is definitely not falling. I'd rather not scare off anyone looking to give the new edition a go by repeated suggestions that the community is dead or dying. I'm going to play AoS. If anyone is looking to get their models on the table, give me a shout.

The new edition is actually going to give me a chance to get into the game again, from the ground up with the new edition, so I'll be looking to play as well.

I just learned that the underworlds warbands can be used in AoS games! I have a pile of gits and orruks and will have the new dominion box. Im really looking forward to rolling dice and pushing toy soldiers around.

So, who here was able to get in an order of the Dominion box? Either in store or online. I have my order placed at the Nexus.

I managed to beat the FOMO on this one. I really like the new models for both factions, but I don't play either and I have enough on my plate right now. Will definitely be picking up the core book from nexus when it arrives though.

Will definitely be picking up the core book from nexus when it arrives though. That's fair. The only reason why I'm getting it is because I play Orruk Warclans, and a friend of mine wants the Stormcast half, so we are splitting the cost.

Nexus told me today that they are bringing in several dominion boxes. If someone is interested, just let Nexus know.

I got mine through SBT. He said he has a few boxes coming in. With the smaller table sizes he is stoked that he can get more than one or two games going in the game room...whenever that opens again.

So after watching the tabletop titans go through their first game of orcs vs stormcast, I really do think the game looks like fun. But wow, the command phase is involved. Lots of buffs and objectives to decide on. The increased use of command abilities throughout really made it feel closer to 40k as well. Definitely a lot more to keep track of.
One thing I hope for is that the "secondary" objectives, as well as those generic command abilities not on the warscrolls, will stay generic and tied to the core book or the general's handbook. This will make it much easier to get a handle on than 40k's bloated system.
One of my complaints about 40k is that there are just so many niche, or outright bad strategems because they feel compelled to write a certain number for each codex and supplement, just to add content. Likewise, how many armies have felt oppressive to play against simply because of the pool of strategem combos they have access to. I'm sure the same is the case for the faction specific secondary objectives. Keep them simple, and available to everyone.
The strategy for the secondaries in 3.0 is much more appealing to me. There's only a handful, they're simple enough that any army could complete all of them regardless of opponent, but the rub is you get to pick one to score each turn, but you can only pick each one once per game. I doubt there will be many games where you will actually max secondaries, but again, unlike 40k, I don't see myself frozen at the start of the game because I can't come up with a list of 3 I'll stand a good chance to achieve against my opponent. Some will be really hard given a certain matchup, but you don't have to make all your decisions before the first die is rolled.
Definitely more complex than 2.0, but I'm hoping it keeps to the happy medium between that and 9th 40k. Right now I'm excited to see an increase in strategy that still feels accessible to a casual player.

I just read that apparently warscroll battalions are out. But now there are battalions in the core book any army can take. At first but thought that this would screw me over, as the battalion I take helps compensate for my Ironjawz slow movement speed, but it turns out that you get a handful of new cp per turn that resets afterwards. This means i don't have to worry about if I get to use my helpful command ability for free once per turn. To be honest, other than the coherency rules (and to a lesser extent the rules to increase unit size), I don't understand all the hate. I know I got caught up in the room and gloom for a bit, but now that I actually know a bit more I'm feeling better about things. Those coherency rules do seem to unfairly punish armies which have units with more than 5 models as the minimum however. But hey, maybe once battletomes start to come out, it'll get better.

Personally I'm happy to see the warscroll battalions gone, but none of the armies I play/want to play really had any great ones. So for me it was mostly a question of whether I wanted to pay the points just for the relic and cp. And there definitely are a lot more cp to go around, so if that was the main benefit of your battalion, you may not really notice a difference.
I am much more in favour of the generic ones that everyone has access to.
Coherency sucks, but as the article on goonhammer described, it can mostly be gotten around. Units on 25's can still attack in two ranks easily enough, and they showed how 32's can almost do the same. I'm just annoyed that movement is going to be much more fiddly/time consuming and I'm probably never going to take cavalry in anything other than 3s/5s. I think that's the one change I have a hard time seeing the benefit of.
Reinforcement rules are definitely going to change how I build my armies. I get that they want to limit the impact of buffs on a huge unit of deadly, but it's rough for armies that function around hordes. I'm really hoping they do a reverse 40k, and start with the books that need help, instead of the ones that are already powerful.
I am excited to get my beasts back on the table though. The points increases didn't hit them too hard, and all the tzaangors that I've added have either dropped in points or stayed the same. So the last list I wrote shouldn't really be much different, other than breaking up some units.

The time thing remains my big complaint. Before I could just wrap my Ardboys as long as there was space - as many got in as was possible to get in with little thought or effort. Now I'll have to wrestle their 32s into this optimized sawtooth configuration every combat to keep them 1" of the line of engagement without breaking coherency. What took seconds before will now be minutes of messing around with a combat gauge. The new aux and strategic objectives also feel like unnecessary bloat, not enough nuance and all very easy to accomplish. I've floated the idea of just straight up ignoring those rules with my regular opponents because really what's the point if the secondaries are virtually guaranteed. Shooting remains a bugbear as well. The sheer quantity of buffs shooting armies have received is unreal when they were already the best performers in the game. All told I'm feeling exactly as lukewarm now as I was about 2.0, since I don't really see any of 2.0s issues being fixed while new problems are being actively introduced. Gotrek went down a lot in points though so that's neat I guess

Yea as a skaven and now lizardmen player I am very nervous about the new edition. The changes to units is big scary for skaven and both factions lose a ton by not having battalions. Compounds the fact that skinks are better than sarus since the battalion helped close the gap. Hopefully the new edition brings new army books cause the skaven are gonna need one.

I'm not sure the turn based secondaries/grand strategy will end up being auto accomplish. It certainly wasn't the case in the game I just watched. Attempting to score/defend against them really did decide how the match played out, and in the end, determined the victor. The fact that you have to declare which one you're going for at the start of each turn, and you can never attempt it again, makes a big difference.
I think ignoring them would remove a whole lot more nuance, as the game would only be left with armies trying to camp more objectives than their opponent. That was 2.0, but if you preferred that style, I can appreciate that.
We'll see how it ends up of course. If everything does end up being too easy, and games become only about the primary, I hope GW will rebalance as they've done in 40k. Unlike 40k, I don't want to see a couple of armies with some auto includes, while others, mostly those waiting a year+ for a book, struggle to come up with a valid battleplan.
