Big fan of the list-archtype page. That's a great resource for known-power-combos if you're into that sort of thing. (https://www.goonhammer.com/competitive-innovations-list-archetypes/)
Sounds like more go-second adjustments are on the way in the next GT pack or CA book, as well as more Admech and Drukhari nerfs.
Admech finding second-life in flyer heavy builds to return to S-tier and so many of those builds being present says the trend has caught on to me.

I see that going first is still a big advantage. Would it help to have a pre -turn-one command phase where the second player can use strategems before the first turn? I know I would like to have a chance to play defensive strategems turn 1.

A unified command phase (or at least a Turn 1 command phase) would be pretty awesome, that or simply shifting more abilities over to "at the start of the battle round"

It's funny because when I watch tabletop titans they regularly want to go second... then you see these giant GT's with these brutal lists that just alpha strike one another off the table (who is this fun for again?) and the turn one advantage is overwhelming.
The guy writing that article said he lost 1,000 points of his list turn one.
I do like watching trends in these GT's of course (gives some insight into possible changes down the line from GW) but it really seems like attending one of these events would be clearly unfun. Maybe there's some play with just losing your first game so you don't have to play these brutal "gotcha" lists for the rest of the event.
But the more of these articles I read, the more I'm glad I don't play in those "competitive" events. I put that in quotes for a reason - In my opinion copy-pasting the most broken netlist from the most broken books (then switching as soon as the FAQ favours something else) doesn't make you a "top" player anymore than putting god-mode in a video game makes you actually win that either.

The alpha striking ness really reminds me of the rise of the leafblower list in 5e (or kan-loota wall orks)....not fun to play against but no one but the most dedicated competative player was going to invest in building/bringing it.
As to 1st vs 2nd....I will say that I have had alot more success with one of my armies going second over going first. But that is because they are built to exploit the other player over extending early.
