Yup. Any little bit of protection you can get against tank shocks, I'd take it!

The greatest concern I have is how you will deal with enemies who quickly close ground.
I understand that Devilfish can be used as movement blockers but I think Kroot and Piranha are much better suited to act as skirmishers, to delay and reroute the enemy, even if they're lost in the process of doing so.
I recommend considering adding more skirmishers to the army list, to protect your deadlier units.

Pirhanas with Flechette launchers are great to stick in the way of the enemy. Just be careful on their positioning, especially against armoured foes. I've had many an opponent regret leaving a vehicle within charge range, as it can get you an extra 6 inches even if you can't hurt it. For example I've had Dire Avengers charge an immobile Land Raider. Sure they can't hurt it, but nothing says you can't charge something you can't hurt, and it's a quick way to get an extra 6" up the board!
As much as I despised them in previous editions I really think Kroot are a near must for Tau in this edition. They form a half decent shooting unit on their own in cover on an objective, can go to ground for the 2+ AND can choose to outflank and assault against weaker armies.

Absolutely @ positioning. Piranhas are for sticking in the way of other vehicles and Kroot are for either staying put against firepower or running away against assaulters, almost exclusively.
In truth, though, I decided on two units of Kroot to give me another option against deepstriking armies. By default, I've reserved most or everything against something like RedShirt's Daemons... but now that I actually have them, Kroot will allow me to turtle in one location for a turn or two and weather the inevitable storm. If I can manage to use terrain correctly I should be able to offer a reasonable defence from which I can later counterattack.
Ultimately, I guess I'm just agreeing with you about Kroot. They're the most versatile thing Tau have at their disposal.

Yeah. My favorite trick with them was to outflank them against guard, and watch the foe position his troops to defend against outflanking assault, then when they come on the whole squad rapid fires into the rear armour of a squadron of Leman Russ tanks, meaning you can destroy them on an immobilized result, or often just blow off the battle cannons (which is as good as destroyed)

I got my stuff in yesturday so im adding up the stuff now that i have to see what total of points i can play, i have one unit of 12 fire warriors with pulse rifles, anouther unit of 11 firewarriors but there are two pathfindered that were supose to be firewarriors i got with them. I have a devilfish with drones, a hammer head with rail gun and smart missles (will probally use them as burstcannons) Three crisis suits that have burst cannons and plasma rifles but i have some missile pods that im going change the burst cannons for. I also have a commander who came with missile pod, fusion gun, and sheild generator, im going to trade the fusion gun for a cyclic ion blaster i picked up and decide what else i want to put on him. Its a start so maybe i can start playing soon

Not really unless you love the unit. Vespid die easily, are short ranged, can't put out alot of firepower for their points cost. I sometimes liked using them for the unit by they don't perform well most of the time.

I've always thought they were neat and would be cool to use in an army but I could never quite fit them in my list, for the reason Fritz listed. Still, they have some nice attributes... with a little bit of updating (even if it was just points cost) they could be really useful, I think.

I feel that way about stealthsuits, I love em to death, but it's hard to make them pull their weight for more than a turn or two.
