Do you have a character with a great back story? Or have you totally ruined a class and overpowered them. Maybe even just some funny story you would like to tell. Well lets hear it lol

Of humble and natural origin, but reborn in the presence of the life-mutating magical aura of the Pristine Tower in the Tablelands of Athas, Hamsterbrain was a 200lb psionic hamster that travelled to Tyr in the uncomfortable safety of a reaver caravan's cage.
Sadly, the penultimate majesty of his miraculous evolution was unceremoniously ended shortly after his arrival in the free city. Only the memory of this paragon rodent still lives on... and even then, not really.
Name: Hamsterbrain Race: hamster Class: psion (psychometabolic) Level: 1-3 Alignment: neutral

My favorite ever character was a lawful neutral cleric of St. Cuthbert (I completely forget his name...I think I went 40k and called him Erebus). The guy was very inquisitorial, in that he had his task which he bound himself to complete, and would not tolerate any interference, even from his own party. In fact, by the end of the campaign he had gone so far as to procure (lawfully and legally of course) a letter of writ from the king authorizing him to kill whoever he wanted, and to take control of any army garrison he found. He ended up having most of the party arrested in their sleep.
But I digress, my favorite encounter of his involved a magic ring of protection which had been pilfered from the body of a wizard the party had just finished off. Our wonderfully neutral evil (IE money grubbing survivalist) rogue decided she wanted such a thing, and swiped it. Someone from the party thought they saw her do...something...and knowing her penchant for hiding things from the party, confronted her. She managed to talk her way out of that, but drew the attention of Erebus. He very calmly asked her to turn over whatever she had so that it could be best used to benefit the party. She rolled an insanely high slight of hand check to stash the ring inside her glove, and held out her hands in a "look, I don't have anything!" manner, accompanied by a snide comment. Little did she know, Erebus had his "detect magic" activated, and could clearly see the item glowing under her glove. He also had several strength buffs activated, leaving him at about strength 26 at the time. He grabbed her by the hand hard enough to shatter all the bones, causing the ring to drop out onto the ground, and then, without missing a beat, cast a heal spell to repair the hand, picked up the ring, and passed it on to our sorceror. And then later had the rogue arrested (recall earlier post).
Another favorite moment (though a short lived character) was a lawful evil Dwarf cleric who dual wielded picks. He managed to critical a goblin with both at once, and did something like 85 points of damage to something with 4 hit points. We had a jolly time describing the scene after the fact.

heh heh, right on Matt, I heard through the grapevine about clerics and rogues before... PS I haven't forgotten about the campaign; still working on it.

Half vampire cleric modeled after Vampire Hunter D, I took travel as one of my domains and with the old rules doubling my movement for expeditious retreat...I was a black clad blur in most fights once I got the feat which allows Clerics to cast domain spells as they were standard spells. Ahhhh, the broken-ness.

Interesting that most people shared their powerful characters, and not ones with a catchy backstory. I guess that says something about our hobby.

Dreggo Hillhollow is a halfling from the borders of the Cairn Hills in the Duchy of Urnst. His brothers were farmers, his father was a farmer, his uncles were farmers, his grandfather was a farmer...Dreggo did not want to be a farmer. Dreggo was always wandering off to explore the countryside. As he finally began to mature, his family came to the realization that Dreggo would never be a farmer.
Dreggo relished relating his tales of places he had seen to any who would listen, but the number that would in fact listen, began to dwindle over the years as more and more people were put off by his ‘unnatural’ behaviour. Not discouraged, Dreggo began to put his thoughts to paper and spent hours writing accounts of his expeditions illustrated with beautiful maps. The fact that his ‘expeditions’ only consisted of trips beyond the borders of his village, did nothing to hamper his enthusiasm.
Dreggo’s family was at a loss about what to do with him. His actions were starting to reflect poorly on the family in general and they came to accept he would never grow out of this ‘phase’. His father, although a grim and simple man, recognized a talent and a passion in his son. When Dreggo came of age, he gave him leave to travel to the City of Greyhawk to develop his talent; fully expecting him to be home by dinner. Dreggo never returned.
Winding his way north, Dreggo was enamoured by the villages, towns and the city itself along the way. He gained notice from the Cartographer’s Guild and was accepted as an apprentice. His early career is storied and well-known, but that is for another tale. Dreggo developed into a full Cartographer fellow, a master linguist and a bold adventurer. Even in the twilight of his career, he never lost the desire to explore.
(Dreggo was a PC/NPC created from a kit idea when the 'Complete Book of Gnomes and Halflings' (2E AD&D) came out in 1993. I ran him for a few years as a player in a Greyhawk campaign and later as an NPC when I DM'd a different session. He was around lvl 6/7 (Fighter/Thief) when I stopped playing him and rounded out his career around 8/9 as an NPC).
