The unit choices and numbers look solid although my personal preference is to have one larger block of archers with the flaming standard to deal with things like helpit aboms, hydras, etc. The character setup could use some tweaking however as the lord, being a forest spirit on a mount, can only join non-skirmishing forest spirit units (i.e. only the treekin). Consequently, the rhymers harp is wasted, especially since the spirits already have a 5+ ward save. A better approach would be to drop the kindred and mount and use the points to boost an archer unit so that the 5+ ward save can actually be useful. Also, I always like having a BSB but that is a matter of choice since the WE variety is very fragile.

treeman without bsb is asking for trouble... L8 stubborn isn't that reliable and he loses combat anytime he whiffles against a unit.
rhymers harm on a mounted forest spirit character is a bad idea. WAY too many points... the only reasonable use of that incredibly expensive item is normally on a combat lord in some eternal guard... still very bad fragile unit though, and I don't recommend that either...
you don't have a scroll in the army... any big spells are going to cause you trouble... no forest spirit saves against magic attacks
if you're bringing a level four, wand of the wych elm is the best arcane item you can have... seriously powerful, and significantly cheaper than the harp

I would 2nd Jack Shrapnel's recommendation on taking the wand (or even a scroll) in lieu of the div orb and rhymer's harp. The default spell in life essentially provides a 5+ ward or 4+ if throne of vines is active. Even with the wand and losing the kindred + mount, the new lord will free up enough points to seriously boost an archer unit.

i did not know that the lord could not join the dryads and that thay already had a 5+ wardsave. the main reason for taking that lord was for the "regroth" spell because i cant see the WE living agains the gunlines of Kennykw's empire. i dont take a scroll because i always forget i have one and it goes unused or i try for the dispel and after my unit dies i go oh poo i had a scroll. i almost need a sticky note. and thankyou for the help.

I don't have the rules for DoW any more but if you agree with your opponent ahead of time I am sure you can manage something if you really have your heart set on them.

Somehow I don't think your proposed rule quite makes that one ;D

so how good is the treeman lord?

he's pretty good until you face a dwarf with a flaming cannon - wounds the treeman ancient on 2's and does double wounds against him with no saves of any kind.
...other cannons at least give him a 5+ forest spirit save, so he's fairly survivable and tough, especially with the annoyance of netlings... but taking him means no level four with life... so he's not used much these days of 8th edition....

Yes, unfortunately, 8th ed has rendered what was once an awesome lord into a relic of the past - kind of apropos for unit callled an "ancient" though ;D For the extra points, the treeman ancient now brings virtually no benefit compared to a regular treeman. If it wasn't for thunderstomp and S6 even treekin can often be better since you can get over 4 of them for the same price as one treeman to give loads more attacks, more than double the wounds and you can actually achieve a rank!!
