Perhaps my favourite race of all time, I was introduced to this alien race through the Dark Sun campaign setting. What I recently found interesting is that in the new MM3, it's explained that their racial history involves being scattered by the Dragonborn empire of Arkhosia.
To translate to the upcoming Dark Sun campaign setting, this appears to be very far removed from their history on Athas (according to their old expansion book, which also detailed many subspecies). If Dregoth's old Dray are being replaced by Dragonborn (according to Rich Baker) then it's hard to see how Thri-Kreen can be reconciled with both history-concepts, especially since the old Kreen of Athas didn't originally hail from the Tablelands.
Comments? Personally, I'm concerned that the old setting that I loved so much will become too distorted by adapting it to the most recent edition of D&D.

I liked the idea of them when i heard about them i never played the old d&d so i didn't know their story. I would hope they wouldn't change the history of a race but some writers do think the have artistic licence

The reason I still play 3rd edition is because 4th ed was rampantly butchered, if they'll beatstick their own rules system, I'd count a solid bet on Wizards complete decimation of the Thri-Kreen history, poor jumping ant-men...when will you get a break...

heh heh, yeah, I'm definitely hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
I wonder if there's been sufficient backlash from recent editions to return D&D to an actual roleplaying game, not what we effectively have now: little more than a card game with a few dice.

I really fear not only for the 'kreen but for the setting as awhole. Character creation is fun...
I am secure in the knowledge that D'Narb and I will roll with the punches and create a plethora of house rules to ensure we have to spit sand out every time we play. (run on sentence...)

can a Thri-Keen be a monk and if so do they account for the extra set of arms?

Lol i like lich also, but its not a race as far as i know. Like being a zombie wouldn't be a race, since your turned into one. Like in the campaign im playing i want to turn my deva wizard into a lich but the dm said no other then the archlich class you can pic in Paracgon or Epic i can't remember

Sure, Kreen can be monks, at least in theory. In Dark Sun, their strong instinctive inclination to be part of a clutch-pack might hinder any asceticism, though. As far as rules go, it appears that the extra arms allow the Kreen to draw/sheathe as a free action.

For now, I'm still sticking to my good old 3rd/3.5ed. Fourth sounds somewhat interesting, but I'm not ready to replace all of my books.

.... I was extremely hesitant to switch to fourth... and the first couple of games I was really not convinced... but after playing it consistently, I really like the system alot....
