Astronomi-con Toronto - June 23rd & 24th, 2012. The event returns to the TPA Banquet & Conference Centre again this year, which has been newly renovated! Registration will be opening tomorrow, April 11th, and with the popularity of last year's tournament I anticipate another sold out event this year. Please spread the word to your clubs and gaming circles. We are also looking for some sponsors in the GTA area, so if you may have a potential sponsor in mind, please let us know! We will also be opening a Navigator membership for this event - details will be forthcoming when registration opens! www.astronomi-con.com/

yeah its 1500pts, but here are some interesting things:
If the Codex is available for your army you must use it and have it with you during all games, along with your army list for use as a reference.
Some Chapter Approved articles may be used. You must have the Chapter Approved book or the White Dwarf magazine with these rules with you if you want to use them in your games. See the FAQ page for a complete list of all approved additions.
Vehicles from the Imperial Armour books will be allowed. Note: You are still limited to a single Force Organization chart for your army - so no Super-Heavy vehicles are allowed.
Special Characters WILL be allowed.
The rules for Flyers in the Apocalypse expansion book WILL be used.
VDR vehicles are being allowed - subject to the approval of the organizers. Stats and photos of your VDR creations must be submitted for approval no later than one month prior to the event. Email the stats and photos of your VDR creations to: vdr@astronomi-con.com. VDR creations should be added to your army to enhance its theme - not for the purposes of power-gaming. The organizers reserve the right to disallow any VDR entry deemed to be inappropriate.
Citadel Journal rules will NOT be allowed.

...yep, they do allow forge world at Astro... VDR and Flyers too!
...and they've gotten rid of comp as of a couple tournies ago, and found that it's made no appreciable difference in the lists people bring...
This is an incredible tourney, and well worth the effort to go... if you in any way found our club championship fun, you would LOVE Astro, as they've been at this for a long time and in many ways the championship emulated as many things as possible about Astro, but still paled in comparison to the real deal....

Has VDR been updated since 3rd ed? I remember screwing around with that YEARS ago....might even have the old White Dwarf with it in it somewhere in the house.
I'd love to go to this if I can wrangle up the cash...I'd likely even have somewhere to stay to save on Hotel costs....hmmm...
Also, I'm surprised they said no to the smurfs...I thought Astro was all about the insane things.

They looked at the smurfs (I sent a link to pictures) and they really liked them, and said that they'd enjoy playing against them in a fun game... however they said that there are some people who attend who take 40k pretty seriously, and might not feel comfortable playing against such an army... they were really nice about it, so I can't really complain....
