Im very new to the game, just buying a used tau army now and never played. So in my prespective this would be something i would like to do. It would give me a chance to try a different army that has basic rules.

I think that a swapping armies tournament might be alot of fun, not the kind of thing that would be credible for the best general overall. Too many variables, knowledge of the armies and table experience etc... I think everyone knows SM well enough to make it an even field.
But I'm into anything that gives me an excuse to play.

I think the one issue with the "Army Swap" tournie is that there are some people who have put hours and hours of work into their models and wouldn't want just anyone handling them. I know I personally would be upset to see someone with a beautiful army get ruined because someone else was mishandling them and not treating them with care and respect.
I find myself cringing inside when even I touch someone's really nice model because I'm terrified of accidentally dropping it even though I avoid lifting it too far from the table and hold it as softly as I can.
I think it's a great idea, but you have to make sure everyone involved is on the same page when it comes to handling other peoples models.

Yeah, I've brought up that idea in the past, and it was met with LOTS of hesitation from everyone. Basically didn't end up happening because of it.

Yeah, I do kind of like that switching armies idea, but as I've said elsewhere there is often a lot of dislike for the thought of allowing someone else to use your models...
