So, we've started playing Infinity Weekly on Saturdays at around 1pm. Usually numbers will range from 2-3, but sometimes 4. So if you're interested in actually playing Infinity feel free to join us :V

We're aiming to start using campaign rules once the new book comes out. If you're interested drop me a line.

Mike is trying to get people to come play Infinity on Tuesday nights every 3rd week as well. I personally am not playing yet, but figured I'd get the message across.

What factions do people play?

If this gets going solidly I'm going to pick up the Ariadna Meringovians (French)...lots of cool things in that faction, but I'm only going to spend money on it if it starts getting solid play...I'm not enough of a painter to buy models just to have. Malifaux taught me that.

but I'm only going to spend money on it if it starts getting solid play...I'm not enough of a painter to buy models just to have. Malifaux taught me that. Feel the same way, especially now (5 years ago I probably wouldn't have though ) If I ever actually start getting some regular game time in playing the other game systems I have models for and if it does become a popular game I may look at getting into it. I had the rules from their site downloaded a while back but never actually got around to reading them. Watched part of a game-play video, but without knowing the rules it was hard to follow.

Factions being played are currently
PanOceania Haqqislam: Qapu Khalqi Haqqislam: Hassassin Bahram Yu Jing Aleph Ariadna
Only haqqislam players are currently using sectoral. While mike is trying to get it rolling on Tuesdays the majority of us show up Saturdays at 1pm due to schedules and stuff. I'm also going to point out that saying you're only going to start playing it if it has a solid community is a bit odd. Given the fact that the Kingston gaming community isn't that huge, let's be honest here, it actually does take people just jumping in and committing to playing regardless of whether there's a large player base or not.
So far myself and few others have been playing consistently showing up and we generally enjoy the game. It does take some getting used too and there are a lot of mechanics you have to be prepared for. We're still learning as well. If you still have hesitations just come Saturday afternoon and feel free to watch. We'll do our best to explain mechanics as we go along and if it's not your cup of tea then it's not your cup of tea.
The videos miss a lot of the mechanics in the game that can blind-side you.
Another thing when choosing your army. A sectoral isn't always the best place to start off mostly because it shoe horns you into what that sectoral specializes in, namely the tactics. It limits your army options and cuts others off completely in exchange for the ability to form a link team. You have to know the pros and cons. It's not simply a fluffy list, but one that will most likely influence your game play.
Some more than others of course.
Just make sure you know what you're getting into before you start picking stuff up. Check out the infinity forums, read the factions guides if you're up to it. A lot of useful information there that will help you make a purchase that you won't regret when you realise...for example...that you can only have 2 of that unit instead of 5. Or that that one unit is not meant to do what you thought it was intended for.
Also, back to campaign I posted about earlier. We're still going over things to make sure we have a good understanding of how it works, but it's much more objective based. How so? To the point that:
a) Tabling your opponents army when neither of you have completed objectives results in a draw.
b) Tabling your opponent when he has gotten an objective and you haven't results in his victory.
So, please keep that in mind. These are the rules for the CAMPAIGN. Not casual play, and probably not tournament play. It's just meant to introduce another way to play the game.
As a final point, you'll see this a lot on the Infinity forums, but take it with a grain of salt. There will be a lot of signatures that say it's not your list it's you. What this means is that Infinity was designed to avoid list building being the hard rule that determines victory. While there are some choices that are universally agreed to be bad, there are two I'm aware of out of all the armies, generally it relies on you and what tactics you want to employ.
There are however suggested expansions for the starter boxes that will give you an idea of how to build up its contents into a decent force that employs a variety of rules. The Yu-Jing box, for example, only requires a blister of Tiger soldiers to become playable at 150 points. (150-200 are normal for beginners with 250-300 being employed later on when people want to use more models)
Oh, Mike is working on a demo army for Yu-Jing as well. A store thing to help show off the game.
/end rant/dialogue/thing
ps. If you see me feel free to ask questions :V I will either answer or bite your head off.

Due to my legal field occupation, I just feel the need to play mediator.
MagicTripe, you do have a point that it takes players to build a community; however, what Matt and Randy are saying is that they (among others) have bought into new systems and ended up getting a bit "burned" in the end.
Most games take about $50 to $100 to start up and that's not including time to paint, assemble, and learn the rules. Unfortunately the time of fancy free gaming is gone for most of us due to life commitments and as such we can only really afford to invest in a game we will actually get to play instead of just look at sitting on the shelf with no local resale value as the game goes into the depths of unplayedness.
So they just want to make sure that their start-up cash will be worth it instead of just getting more dust magnets.

I apologize, perhaps I came off a bit strongly on that particular point. What I meant to say is that I don't think a large player base should be the determining factor of whether you play a game or not. What should matter is if you enjoy the system yourself. I'd rather avoid the scenario where someone buys an army and simply does not enjoy the game or the army they're playing, which is fair enough. If it's not your cup of tea, then it's not your cup of tea. That's why I'd advocate coming in and observing, running a demo game, and learning more about the armies, i.e. tactics they're centred around.

Agrippa, Magictripe, I appreciate your candour and passion for this game. It looks great and I've had my eye on it for a while. So, I'll see about coming by for a demo game sometime, but probably wont be buying in until the new year. I'll do my research, but I'm leaning towards Nomads, or Combined--it depends on what models will work well together and if I like them.
For me, these days, the care and feeding of 40K is too much to maintain beyond a single army, and even my one army has big holes that need major $ and modelling/painting time to fill.

No harm, no foul Tripe. A common misunderstanding on both our parts. I've seen the game at Hobby Ninja in Courtice long before I heard of it on here. It looks interesting.
I hope you can get it up and running regularly as you seem like the right person to build the community.
