Last year we did a full weekend with three games each day, everyone was in one bracket, everyone had the same chance at the trophies, everyone had the same chance at the prize pool.
So for the basic structure of the tourney, I'm still thinking the two days is the best... makes for a suitably BIG tourney that stands out from the standard three game variety.
So my questions on structure:
Do you like having a full weekend (two day) format?
Is six games enough or too much?
Do you like prizes as random draws that you put tickets in (so you get something you actually want) ?
thoughts?
;D

2 day format, 6 total games was great. I also like the idea that the winners get a trophy/prize and that there are random prize draws as well (lets people with lesser skill/knowledge of 40k or less optimized lists still have a chance at something).

I didn't mind the 2-day/6 games format of last year so I'm okay with it. Only change I would probably suggest is that maybe go to 5 games so that you only have 2 games on the 2nd day. This would mean finishing earlier (thus giving out of towners a head start on the drive home) and allow for more after-tournament socializing as well as give everyone time to help clean up afterwards if needed.
I'm 100% behind the Trophies for placing and drawing for prizes. This allows for a more equal chance at getting new stuff to feed our gaming addiction and still gives credit to those who play well.

....six games could also mean four games on day one, two on day two?

That could work as well, though it would make for one really long day the first day. But the upside is that since there isn't any prize/trophy work to be done on day one, everyone would be free to leave when they were done and get some rest and be ready for the next day.

If you want six games what point level are you thinking? At 2000 points six games can take pretty long. 1850 or 1750 would speed things up a bit.

Yeah I would be fine with 4 games day 1 and 2 games day 2 as well, Randy's point is a good one regarding people having long drives so only having 2 games on day 2 might encourage more 'out of towners' to come.
Points wise, I also support the idea of 1750/1850 point games to try to ensure sufficient time to finish most games. Need to remember that there will be people that don't play much causing slower play, more rules needing to be checked, etc. Optimized lists or lists spamming certain units tend to be faster to play, along with level of game knowledge of the player and skill level.

I think 2 days and six games like last year was fun, and no don't decrease the points. Point levels going up in 6th were one of my favourite changes. People have months to learn and prepare their list and get ready to play, 6th plays faster than 5th, so if they go slow its their fault and they can just end their game slightly early.

I think like connor 2000 pts is perfect and the 3 outsider that came last year will come back this year and I talk to them and they prefer 3 games each day just because we can go for supper and enjoy our night saturday night and they already book monday off to drive... Also 6 games is perfect its once a year guys comon talk to your gf, boss, wife whatever you have to reserve that weekend 3 months in advance ... My gf already knows that Im not available for one weekend in februrary haha

I found 6th plays very quickly compared to 5th in all honesty, I think 2000 would be fine. I'm all up for a 4/2 split as well..I know a lot of larger tourneys do 4 games/day and it works out....now if only we had a venue with some adult beverages available during the games....

the only problem i can see with the longer first day is that some people might have people or animals at home who have time related medicine. i say this because i have a cat who had diabities and needs a shot at a certain time twice a day. Now not saying it is an issue for me because my gf can do it days i cant and i do it days she cant so normaly there is no problem but i thought it might be something to consider.

harryfang - I know you're starting out so might not have a lot of stuff. 2000pts is the common level people play at now. If I can go, I'll likely be playing nids in the tournament, but I have a lot of nid stuff so I might be able to lend you some models if you need something (in my colours of course but at least it would be painted). Let me know. What kind of list where you planning on making?

If we were to do the 4/2 split, that would mean with lunch (and possibly dinner breaks, not to mention the time needed for setup, getting there and everyone organized, etc) we are looking at ~10-12 hours on day 1, personally I feel that is a bit much.
I would put my vote on either the 3/3 or 3/2 split, maybe making the first day a group based or round-robin format, and having championship sunday.
