yeah, lost patrol should have perhaps a caveat in it... no teleportation moves allowed... otherwise it makes it VERY lop sided!!!! perhaps no move greater than 6" in the move phase and 6" in the shooting phase (allowing for a rhino for example to cover 12" if moves flat out???)

Well, Lost patrol has some very big loopholes, as there are a lot of new mobility tricks in the new edition.
Custom missions were very fun, but I would recommend some test play, as well as complete removal of attacker/defender scenarios. (Last year I basically got an auto-win vs trevor on the bridge simply because he could never score any bonus VP, and I got the opposite end of the stick when I was a defender vs Tom's DE on Bunker Defense, trying to fight off his entire army with the unit or two I would get in from reserves.)

only moving 6" kind of circumvents those mobility tricks.
There won't be a complete removal of attacker / defender scenarios.
the apoc tables require scenarios being built around them. You can't really move any of the terrain or ensure any symmetry.

not sure yet... the ones from last year were the only ones I liked from Astro... I left out some of the more brutally unbalanced ones...
...I think if I had the bunker mission in the list Tom would likely snap and beat me to death...
so if they're balanced maybe... otherwise I might have to get.... creative....

I'm sure he'll do a good job on that and not bring the Bunker mission by threat of death.

yeah, there were some missions that were seriously lop-sided last year. The ones that limited your deployment by FOC were the worst. Especially since 3 of the missions I played forced every meched up unit to start in reserve.

so you don't bring a balanced list and blame the scenario?

Some armies especially older ones only have 1 or 2 remotely viable lists so "balanced" can end up being very subjective.

If certain missions meant that certain FOC slots arrived first and you didn't bring any of those FOC slots you brought a list that was lopsided... for whatever reason... every army has choices in every FOC slot... if someone did not bring them because it is an older army, or the choice was not "optimal" then you are making a choice to forgo that... for those people who bring a balanced list across all areas of the FOC you will be more apt to not have any of the scenarios hurt you at all... with sixth edition and the change to less mechanized this will have less of an impact.... is it really unclear why there would be missions in a fifth edition tournament meant to minimize the dominance of mech??? seriously? that is why these scenarios in the past with Astro had created an environment where people brought lists that were varied and units that you don't normally see... I saw more penitent engines at my first Astro then I'd ever seen in my life... I was one of FIVE sisters players and the only one that didn't bring engines... you know, the worst choice in the whole codex... and this was fifth edition... the scenarios are specifically designed to favour un-optimized lists so they don't just get crushed by the new big thing... hell if you want to play two days worth of games against the latest netlist there are tournaments that you can do this in... if you notice, none of them have customized scenarios though... and they're normally only fun if you're of a competitive mindset, which only the minority of those who attend this tournament are.... believe it or not I'm not looking at scenarios meant to have the top 5-6 players have the best and easiest time... I'm looking at scenarios that the other 25 people are going to have fun playing and the most chance of having their chances at winning equalized.... the ones used last year for the most part tested your ability to adapt to situations that were outside the norm and conditions that did not favour your army (while you normally hit another table that did favour your army)... those that adapted placed very high in the rankings, despite the scenarios they played....

Sorry, I should clarify.
Several missions last year (i probably got unlucky enough to play 3 of them) had restrictions such as "you can and MUST deploy 1 HQ, 2 Troops and 1 Heavy Only". For example the bunker mission against Tom, I was forced to deploy those selections, while he got to deploy his entire army. My reward? I got a post-deployment artillery bombardment that only hit on 6s, and was only Str 6. While the rest of my army had to sit in reserves for 2 turns.
An example of a similar scenario I actually found really balanced was the Tomb Mission vs Dave, it limited what you deployed to 3 FOC slots, but you got to choose whatever you wanted to deploy, and the rest would arrive at the start of your first turn.
By no means am I saying I want a tournament where we play nothing but competitive missions, I'm just trying to express that some of the missions with very extreme hardline rules just were not fun, and probably wouldn't of been no matter what army you played.
I'm more than happy to have some cool fun missions to play, it's far more challenging to figure out how I'm going to get to Grot Mart or if I can sink the Baneblade this turn than to figure out how I can kick my opponent in the face harder than he kicks me.
I fully support the custom scenarios, I'm just pushing for a little bit of moderation so that there's no tables where you setup and feel like your opponent has every advantage.
