....trying to find the points to have Inquisitor Gargamel!

I know this probably irks me more than most as it pretty much directly targets the army I play if that's the reason (an army I did NOT build to be competitive and was excited about being a viable tournament option), but it just.....argh. I know Scars will still do fine without the Khan/Scout thing, but giving more than half the armies in the game the ability to shut down my army for like 35 points in an effectively free slot just....kinda makes me shake my head. Just because it's available, doesn't mean everyone is going to take it. White Scars is literally the only chapter trait that gets used in the competitive tournament scene and they ALWAYS bring Khan so they can simply drive into your face and punish you with impunity T1 with a dozen grav guns and bolter spam. The exception is that Guard will almost always ally in an Inquisitor now because it's just one-trillion times better than a crappy commissar and they get scout/infiltrate defense (Guards biggest folly atm), which will put them back on level where they can actually be played as a primary detachment in a tournament. This book fixes 2 things: 1) Guard don't auto lose to White Scars 2) All other Chapter Tactics got stronger, because they can get Div without an allies slot or Tiggy. Don't get me wrong, it's a nerf to White Scars, but it needed to happen that the option is now availible, because instead of people saying "Your army is OP and <Imperial Dex Here> has no way to counter it", you get to say back "Well you didn't take scout/infiltrate defense from the Inqusition". TLDR: It's a Vanilla book internal balance fix combined with much needed Guard Buff. Your points all make sense Ray. If guard pretty much auto lose to White Scars with Khan than that is not acceptable IMO. And White Scars with Khan is certainly very powerful. I am not a fan of turn one getting badly plastered any more than the next guy (I experienced it the other day from Tom's White Scar/Space Wolf list when he scout moved and stole initiative - it was ugly). Now I play a White Scar successor and don't use Khan so it doesn't effect my army but I feel for those that do, especially so short after the SM dex has come out. I would prefer that someone gets the ability to hamper scout moves (say halfway across the Board so that the defender can deploy accordingly knowing which side is riskier than the other, but 3 servo skulls seems to me to shut down any scout move with the amount of ground it covers. 3 servo skulls also covers a lot of ground for deep striking, and I must say I am concerned how it will interact with the new nid dex soon to be released. And 35 points is not much and may become a very common sight if there are a number of armies that use deep striking and scout moves that people want to shut down.

Yeah, sorry you had to experience that Mark- I was just testing it out to see just how potent the scouting grav guns were and they are too much without a proper balance in place to keep them from alpha striking your opponent to death. I was initially worried that I had to use it to fight off the other White Scars / Raven guard builds that were doing this, but the servo-skulls does it for me and I'm not going to be just taking 34 points to do this. Will show you in my current build I'll be trying out this Saturday.

And yes Shannon, Smurfette should be an Inquisitor- no female smurfmarines. So it's make sense that she's an Inquisitor attached to their Chapter.

So with Servo skulls, is there ANY defense against them? Like, for example, buying my OWN Inquisitor with Servo Skulls and putting them in the way or somesuch?

Nope, you can have your servoskulls placed right next to theirs, it doesn't change or affect anything but the fact that your opponent can't infiltrate or scout within 12'' of it, etc.

I think that in my 2K list Inquisitor with skulls will become auto include.
The servo skulls start on the table even if the Inquisitor is in reserves right? 'Cause if that's the case, hello D6 scattering Valkyries.

Interesting option with my sisters but I really want to finaly get a conclave in a raider. Just once I would like to go straight into cc vs standing around for a turn.

This makes me legitimately wonder if I should drop Khan from my Scars list. If scout is neutered against a big chunk of players he becomes nothing but a Captain with a crappy warlord trait and subpar equipment. Might be better to just suck it up and build a tanks Chapter Master.

you can still scout against me Matt... I won't have any inquisitors!
(I play too many evil armies!)

And neither my SM bike army, Salamander army or nid army use inquisitors so scout moves still work against me. As Tom, Shannon and I were talking about it today, since you need the dex and it seems not very many have it (or may not even want to get it), there probably wont be that many people that can (or plan to) field inquisitors for the tourney. I believe Tom indicated that he and one other person were the only ones he was aware of that had it. On the other hand, a beatstick Chapter Master is what I have in my bike army and I like it.

Khan is more worth it then not, even with Servoskulls in the game. Your opponent can always make a mistake with servoskull placement- and not every opponent will have them. The upside is too good to just abandon ship because somewhat of a counter was introduced into the game.
