I play it currently.
It's fast; easy to learn; relatively inexpensive given a comparison to other miniature games; and everything is pre-built and pre-painted.
Fleets are small, usually 100 points which relates to 3-4 Rebel ships, or up to 8 or so Imperial ships if using a TIE swarm.
I know of five or six players out my way (Port Hope to Trenton). How sizable is the Kingston community?

They usually play on Friday nights with us Warmachine guys and there is always a bunch of tables going.
I popped in during the last tournament that had in Kingston and I think they had 6 or 7 tables going.

I find your lack of faith that I won't buy absolutely everything disturbing.... Actually, that's really not far off what you're probably going to do. So far I have the following: Imperial Fleet: 5 TIE Fighters 4 TIE Interceptors 1 TIE Advanced 1 Slave-1 2 TIE Bombers 1 Lambda Class Shuttle Rebel Fleet: 4 X-Wings 3 A-Wings 2 Y-Wings 1 Millennium Falcon 1 HWK-290 2 B-Wings 1 GR-75 Medium Transport And I only started buying into this game around Christmas. A good, and economical way to expand your fleet is a second starter kit. 4 TIEs and 2 X-Wing plus all the extra dice and templates is a freaking bargain and a great start towards a 100 point fleet. I watched a batrep video from GenCon (I believe) and the tournament winner was an Imperial TIE swarm using nothing but TIEs, pilots, and upgrades found in a few starter sets. |

From what I've seen it's a pretty balanced game... Mike was telling me that the last couple tournies around here people won with the basic ships...
...and one guy runs three slave 1's with different pilots...

You can get a lot of diversity with various pilots.
I've heard of three Firesprays (Slave 1's) in a list using a mix of the four pilots that comes with the ship.
Slave 1 is a decent Imperial ship as it is one of the few with shields and has both a front and a rear firing arc (which is exploited by coming in at it from the side) plus it can drop bombs and fire missiles.
The YT-1300 (Millennium Falcon) comes with pilot cards for Han, Chewie, Lando, and a basic smuggler, so there are lists based around 2 YT's which can be strong as the ship has a 360 degree firing arc, but it can be beat by a list with a swarmish affect as the YT can only hit one target in its arc.
I'm sure that you'll have a blast and it'll be a quick little breather from anything more serious.

why would you need a pilot OTHER than Fett for the Slave 1 and Han for the falcon...
that's just crazy talk! lol...
...now I just gotta convince someone at my house to play the damn game with me so I can learn it!

had a four way battle tonight... empire vs. rebels... very fun, even if we were just learning the game... afterwards we all agreed we need to buy more ships...
...so it begins....
