....that moment the tourney organizer realizes he no longer owns zombies for the zombie mission. .....and suddenly I have to actually paint 20 models myself in the next two weeks

So I am free to play in the tournament, however the question is if I can actually paint everything to be able to play.

Sorry for being a noob, but how does the prize pool work? Are entries into the draw based off of tournament points?

Sorry for being a noob, but how does the prize pool work? Are entries into the draw based off of tournament points? it is a random draw. you get tickets once you have competed a round, usually the second match of the second day. then they put out the prizes and you put your tickets into the box of the prize or prizes you want. and its done at random.

There's multiple levels of prizes:
If we get thirty - each players name goes into a draw box - we pull one of you out. That person gets a thunderhawk. this model is valued around $750 if you were to order one from Forge World. If you win don't drop it - its' a massive chunk of resin!!!
No matter how many we get, you'll all get draw tickets. There's normally about 8-10 prizes on a table, each with a corresponding draw box. You put tickets in what you want to win. Last year there were about $700-$800 worth of product on this table. Amongst this is always a Nexus gift certificate.
We have engraved trophies for Best overall, Best general and Best painted. The winners also get their names engraved on the Nexus store trophy (the one with the big space marine on it)
If you made early bird, there was also a t-shirt ordered for you - each year we have a different design on the back. It's a surprise even to me what it is - last year was chaos. It was sweet.
In addition, sometimes Nexus throws in an additional "swag" gift. One year it was those battlefoam destroyed vehicle foam templates...one year it was dice... stuff like that.
there is a massive amount of prizes at this tourney. It's definitely the highest supported tourney that I'm aware of in the region. Tom and I went to Astro, and another tag-team tourney in Toronto, and Tommy and I went to astro previous to that as well. This prize pool basically doubles what was there. And the entry fee is lower.
How do we do it? Well Mike's generosity, that's how. He supports this 100%. I'm constantly blown away by the level of support he gives to this tourney. One of the many reasons why throughout the year, my gaming dollars go to Nexus exclusively.
