Alright, so I've just finished watching it. I was entertained, but not really impressed. It had some good points and some lows. Overall though, for a first effort it wasn't all that bad and perhaps we might see more in the future with more improvement. I noticed in the credits that there was some Canadian involvement. So I guess this counts as Canadian content now. ;D I had a few questions though: 1. Why aren't my Templar Crozius Arcanums an area effect weapons like my brothers of the Imperial Fists 2. Why the hell didn't anyone pick up the heavy bolter when it became available. If I had to hold ground against a ravenous horde of charging Black Legion, I might have preferred something a bit harder hitting than the standard issue bolter. ;D

Both valid points, maybe the heavy bolter was the 1 weapon in the movie without unlimited ammo.

it was weird that the marines were supposed to be all noobs nun of them having any experience in battle. i thought they had to be scouts for like a couple decades to even be considered for power armor. it was also weird that for two of the best "funded" chapters in the galaxy they had so few vehicles and men in the case of the ultras. also the power armor itself was weaker then i would have thought, on the chaos space marines side mainly. it was a cool movie but i think they maybe should have done an existing book done by abnet.

I did a bit of research into that scout question because I had wondered the same thing. It turns out that Abnett also did a small graphic novel that came with the special edition boxed set of Ultramarines which is a prequel to the movie. In the comic you find that the 2nd Company was busy on a hive world planet called Algol (they mention it briefly in the movie) dealing with a formidable tyranid incursion. During the battle where the planet's guard had been completely overwhelmed and only the 2nd company was keeping things together Captain Severus received the distress call from the Imperial Fists. I guess the comic then revolves around his decision to help as they were the closest available forces to assist. Basically he had to choose between abandoning Algol to the Tyranids to save the relic or to abandon the relic to save the planet. Somewhere in there he came up with a compromise. He left the majority of the 2nd company on Algol, grabbed a squad of scouts and sped up their progression to full space marine on the way to the relic planet and felt that by leading them himself that they'd be successful. I know it doesn't really fit codex standards but I guess it works as a backstory to the movie. It's a shame they couldn't spare a bit of extra money to put in maybe a 10 to 15 minute scene showing that. Seeing animated tyranids might have bumped my feelings on the movie.
