So if a rhino is in front and pops smoke. There is a Rhino right behind the smoked one. If an enemy shoots at the Rhino BEHIND the smoked one, and is in the front arc (but can only draw an unobstructed line to the side of the rhino due to the rhino directly in front blocking)
... is the cover save 3+?
I saw an online tactic that says this, however don't know if the tactic was referring to a rule with this edition or not...

I think it would be 4+ cover if you read page 62 it says 3+ only if you are in fortification.

There is a quote in the rulebook that if you cannot see the facing that you are forced to shoot at then the vehicle receives an improved cover save due to the near impossible angle of the shot. I'll get a page reference as soon as I get a minute to go searching for my rulebook.

so would that work for say a rhino blocking a landraider, given that the raider is slightly taller because if it does that would make me sad about all the times ive failed to use the benifit.

If I remember right it has to block the entire facing to gain the benefit. And I don't think it's possible for a rhino to completely block the entire front a LR.
eg: the front of the vehicle is completely behind the building, but the back corner can be seen. This makes it a legal target, but since the side that is actually facing the model is completely blocked you gain the added benefit.

i somtimes use two rhinos to block the raider, but besides that the rhino is longer then the raider is wide...

But as you mentioned already the rhino isn't as high as a LR so you can still see part the front/side even with the rhinos in front of it. Only a LR would block another LR since they are the same heigh and width.
You would still get a 4+ cover save since the rhino does block more than 50% of the model, but not the 3+

yes basicly my question early was would poping smoke have any affect on the hight of the blocking rihno, as the raider is only about 2 centameters taller?

From the tactics I've seen, if anything can be seen of the one behind the first, you can't claim the 3+

Smoke does nothing to increase the size of the model on the table so it doesn't do anything to protect your LR any further.

.....on a side note, it's kind of funny having your big tough landraider hide behind a rhino isn't it?

yes it is funny just like grots in front of nobs or gaunts in front of genestealers. if i could take anouther smoke launcher on the raider i would but instead i just take 5 assault marines in a rhino for 100pts.

wasn't the old rule that if the nob made it's cover save you took a grot off instead to represent the nob picking up the grot to use a shield?
