FYI - we're capped at 30 for this one... follow the link above to register - takes a minute and if you don't want to online pay just hit "pay offline" to pay in store at some later date.
alternatively register in store, but don't miss out! (I'm thinking much like the last tourney we're going to be pretty much a full house, especially with 8th being such awesomeness!)

How stringent are the model requirements. Counts as allowed?

How stringent are the model requirements. Counts as allowed? whatcha thinking???
like a weapon is a different weapon counts as?
or this cardboard square is actually a landraider counts as?
Depends on how crazy you're going, but at long as it's clear to your opponent what they're facing I'm not going to be too WYSIWYG strict for the first one, given you might have decided to NOT completely rearm your entire army from scratch because goddam devourers aren't any good anymore... oh wait... I digress... ahem... not that stringent... but if you're in doubt, just let me know what you're thinking but minor things shouldn't be a problem.
cardboard square... probably should bring something else....

Nothing specific just some thoughts for lists I don't want to outright buy right now. I think I'll stick to what I've got though and not go crazy with like 8 dreds or something in that vien

Or 15 Kans. And yes, I put that list together so I could put Leapin' Larry and Speedy Gonzalez back on the table. But then, I will be out of town that weekend (something called "family"). Shame to miss this 1st tournament, but them's the breaks. Good luck to those who can attend!

a clarifying note added about understrength units - fine if you're just new and building your army and are a couple models short for a unit... not fine if you're basically trying to cheese the system to get more command points. If in doubt - ask! we've got 14 signed up... still 2 weeks out... but you need to ensure you sign up to get a spot secured. Our last TWO tournaments sold out. I have no doubt this one will as well, especially because it's the first tourney of 8th sign up here (it's free if you want to pay in store later!) kingstonnexus.ca/events/warhammer-40k-first-strike/

Looks like some ghost signed me up. I sure don't remember doing it. Regardless, I'm in! Heading in to nexus to pre pay today.

I won’t be able to make this one. I’ll just have to enjoy getting schooled by Shannon in my basement.

Yeah, I'd actually rather not go (despite wanting to go). Willa has a baseball tournament that day so as much as I like 40k... you know; being proud of my daughter trumps it hard.

I can't really think of a time where you will be so close to 2000 pts in your collect that you NEED an under strength unit and you can't just take upgrades some where...UNLESS you are trying to gain extra command points which seems to be why people don't like this. or we take the book at its word like we have with all other rules they put out and accept that under strength units introduce a new tactical complexity to the game so they are fair. For tournament the base rule should apply evenly to ALL people who sign up, not an army to army situation. "Do you want COMP! cause that's how you get COMP!" - Archer Also in general in the community there is always some models not being used by some body so its really not hard to borrow the last couple models you need either way.

We have a number of very new players for this tourney. I'm trying to be accommodating to them.
Yes there are very many people here who would lend models for the tourney, and I'm not saying that this would be the case (where someone even NEEDS to use the rule), I'm trying to NOT black and white rule it so that we can make exceptions if need be and be super friendly and inviting to someone new to the game who was just building their collection.
I'm trying to err on the side of being nice. I'm not outlawing any rules of 8th just yet, we're a little too new in the game for that, and frankly we don't know all the ins and outs of the game this early!
If you're using the rule to min-max your army for an "intro to 8th" tourney, I'm just asking that you perhaps reconsider that choice.
This is a new player friendly event. There's no shortage of ways to build an army in 8th.
