so going through the full index scans linked in the other thread for xenos imgur.com/a/CbFvmI gotta say, some things are pretty "meh" for the poor nids... whereas other things are clearly an improvement thankfully! devourers went from TWELVE shots to THREE... yes three... same strength and lost twin linked... doing 1 damage with no AP... so yeah... so glad I used actual fleshborer hives as my devourers because they're 20 shot S5 one damage... so what would I choose? even deathspitters are 3 shot S7 -1 AP so serve some kind of purpose I guess... but with the new to wound chart, anything the hives are shooting is a 4+ to wound with 20 shots instead of 3+ or 4+ with three shots. I'm kind of disappointed that they just made is super clear AGAIN of the three weapons that really only one is ever worth it.... they just changed which one... to me - it doesn't really matter (as I've got them all modelled with hives) but still, I really wish they did something to differentiate the weapons much better! also... ummmm pyrovores and lictors? I still see zero reason to take them in my army. pyrovores - gained a wound, and autohit on their flamers - slightly better - balanced by when they blow up they still hurt your army, except NOW do mortal wounds in an area.... so I want them in my army why? maybe in a tyrannocyte still... I guess... if there weren't much better options still! lictors - keep shrouded (which is better now of course) and basically the same profile... however now can deploy only 9" away instead of 1" with no scatter, and lose the bonus to reserves (because everything is auto-in now). Deathleaper is also an elite choice, is also a single model, and is 100 times better.... still. so why on earth would I include any lictors in my army? if I want a short range assassin that can pop up, I'll take deathleaper, or you know, a Trygon who can do the exact same deployment thing but a million times more threatening??? definitely want to pour over this information in more detail in conjunction with the new rules... these are just some initial thoughts.

tyrant guard can get around the more then 10 wounds on characters. if a tyrant takes a wound within 3 inches of the unit, on a 2+ the tyrand doesnt take the wound and they take a mortal wound.

oh yes... there are some amazing things:
Tyrants - went down in points slightly swarmlord - gets most improved award old one eye - seems very improved over previous (useless) incarnation warriors - cheaper by 9 points a model with basic loadout tyrannofex - there's a reason to take the rupture cannon now - but getting the improved profile is going to be difficult at a 4+ BS Tyrannocyte - much more survivable than previously! Carnifex - dropped in points for the base model pretty significantly, and since devourers suck now, are super cheap to run! (no more S9 sucks but is a fair trade) Toxicrine - seems good enough to run now! Maleceptor - am willing to give this a test - MUCH better than before tyrant guard - only eat a wound on a 2+ now - before it was automatic - but in conjunction with the new rules, it's probably a win.
pretty much a wash:
hormagants termagants tervigons
some misses:
venomthropes don't work on Monsters... only infantry... *sad trombone noise T-fex's lost their 2+ save... so all the MC's now are lascannon/melta bait (two melta shots have a very decent chance of killing a fex outright, whereas before they could at most do 2 wounds) biovores are pretty lackluster pyrovores and lictors as stated above zoanthropes - with only three spells and no duplication allowed for casting, one unit ever, max, maybe??? That's a lot of points for something to smite given warp blast is gone (their only role before)

But what about raveners and shrikes?

raveners can set up 9" away from reserve (like a trygon) but are otherwise the same but cheaper
shrikes now get the same save as warriors (finally!) and slightly cheaper
synapse is WAY better (and instinctive behaviour less punishing) so there's that too

i think harpies are going to be pretty good. with stranglethorn cannons it's got 2d6 str 7 ap-1 d2 shots, plus a stinger salvo plus it can drop spore mine bombs

ugggh I'm an idiot....
.... devourers are three shots each... you must buy TWO when you replace a set of talons... so yes, if you replace both talons on a fex/flyrant you are still getting 12 shots...
... you just lose twin linked, and it costs you 28 points to equip them that way (savings of 2 points over double devourers last edition)...
also carnifex are bought as a unit in a force org slot but split into single monsters upon deployment... this is tactically pretty nice, although you cannot use wound allocation to try and shenanigan the wounds around to keep the squad alive...

Maybe not (quite) an idiot. But thanks for the correction and fex info. I built my harpy a while ago so I guess I better blow the dust off and paint it.

moreso than any other army (but it's going to be tricky with those as well), tyranid army building isn't quite as simple for point calculations as it used to be...(other people are posting stuff online to hear back "you forgot his prehensile tail - that's points too!) I have to wrap my brain around the new system... basically you have a dude with no limbs.... buy him limbs/guns/tail etc. = final cost.

Ya you also HAVE to buy what is "stock" in the dataslate so no saving points but being like well I don't want that. The weird thing is that some of the "upgrades" will lower the stock point cost, which is hard to think about.

I'm hoping the app that come out comes with an army builder. Failing that, I'm sure Battlescribe will be updated very quickly. It's just that battlescribe isn't always accurate, since the data is fan compiled, and the points seem a little wonky.
