Honestly from what I've seen, victory is less about bringing Forgeworld models and far more about having a properly synergized list that is used correctly on the battlefield.
Making the majority of your rolls also helps a great deal. Because it doesn't matter how OP your list is if you constantly fail your saves and to-hit rolls.

First off i'll start by saying thanks for having us and that the tournament was a blast! We thought it was really well run and had a lot of fun. We were surprised by the amount of forge world models as seems to be a common theme here. However I think if players took the time to order, build and paint such models that they should be able to get to use them. The only thing that sucks about that is showing up and seeing them for the first time and having no idea what the hell they do lol. I know that this tournament was really just meant to be fun but I think posting all the lists after they were submitted for everyone to be able to view and prepare for would have been a better idea. I've never played in a tournament before but I see posts from them all the time and a lot of them post the lists a week in advance. Then on top of that someone running the tournament and the other competitors should be able to determine that all the lists are legal battle forged armies and within the point restrictions. I did bring Magnus and one of my teammates brought Mortarion. I Know they are pretty op models but I've seen them both get shot down in own turn by lesser points so I don't really think they should be banned. The only other thing I think would be nice is to have some sort of reward for best painted army. Something to acknowledge the guys who did bring fully painted armies and just an incentive for guys to actually show up with painted armies. That light up Magnus and his thousand sons for example looked incredible and I think just deserved at least a shout out lol. Anyways I'll end off by again saying how great of a time we had. Pretty much every game we played was enjoyable. Our opponents were all good guys and really fun to play against. I felt it was really well run but that it was a way, way to hot lol. 40+ nerds in one room with no ac is a god damn nightmare. Imma bring my own fan next year. I hope to make it to some of your other events and the store and staff were awesome! Thanks!

I hope to make it to some of your other events and the store and staff were awesome! Thanks! Thanks for coming out guys, I know it was a hella long drive. -Yup, we're pretty FW happy around here. The nice thing now is the books are crazy cheap (compared to before), so getting all the rules isn't too bad. Battlescribe is also an amazing tool for looking up models you may hear about on the internet. -The posting the lists in advance thing only works if the lists get locked in before they get posted. If they're not locked in there's no point in sharing them, because people will just change them up when they see what they're up against, and then you're back to square one. -I don't think anyone is asking for the primarchs to be banned. They look super duper cool, and hit like trucks, but I think we're just starting to figure out what a "take all comers" army looks like, one that can deal with the eventuality of facing a deamon Primarch or two. -4 out of 5 of the tournaments Nexus hosts a year have no painting requirement, and that is to encourage as many people to come out as possible. Though, an armies on parade type thing with a "player's choice" might be a fun thing to do for the team tourny as it is a two day affair. The 5th tournament is the club championship, with a full painting requirement to enter, and best painting prizes that are judged. Those Thousand Sons sans-Magnus actually tied for first place last year, and won in a previous year I believe? Anyways, good suggestion. -Oh hell yes, it's hot down there. I brought some backup deodorant on the second day. The Club Champs are in February, so it's less of a problem. The issue is that Nexus is in a basement, and there is no central cooling, and no windows to get rid of the hot air and air conditioner spits out. I really don't know the solution to this. Maybe Mike can start selling freezies?

I’m glad you guys were able to come out! After our game (I’m the light-up Magnus guy), I had one of those “poor life choices” kind of talks with myself in my head, lol.
You guys beat me like a dog you didn’t like; BUT… It was still a fun game and I’d have played you guys again in the weekend knowing full well the outcome of our second game would likely be the same as the first. If the game you play is fun, and your opponents are good at being humans; you’ll have a great time. Not to mention your Magnus and Tzeentch Daemons were no slouch job. I love models and can really appreciate when the time and care is taken to make them your own.
Forgeworld has always been a bit of a hot issue, and I’m just as much a person to blame as anyone else; I own a few sicarans and have kitbashed no less than 3 fire raptors and a large contingent of rapier batteries. In the past we limited availability to certain FW models and possibly that’ll come up again. We do always however open the discussion to everyone on the forums so everyone has an equal voice in deciding the matters at hand; that’s one of the many things that Shannon does very well.
Last little side note… Taking one huge model in the club champs will likely spell your end. The scenarios are going to need some serious work to bring them from 7th to 8th ed and they are all so very specialized that often putting all your eggs in one basket is a serious hindrance.

I will add for the painting issue - many of our tournaments had at least some painting requirements and club championship was fully painted only. The team tourney used to be "it's only 1k paint your stuff" however with 8th we've had a LOT of new players coming out, and I'd rather people get to play than to exclude someone who's maybe just put together their army over the last month, nevermind try to paint the whole thing!
Still saw a lot of great paintjobs over the weekend nonetheless, and the vast majority of our tournies give some form of points for painting (towards best overall soft scores). Team tourney is one of the few that doesn't have that as part of the point system and is one of our very few tournies which is scored on battle points only. (with sports thumbs up and down)
I try my best to have each tournament be completely different so that we can appeal to a wide variety of players. Our next tourney for example - Secret Santa - is stated at the outset as a pure fun tourney, super laid back and encourages fun lists. The club championships in February is more competitive and structured - 100% painted required - no one plays the same table twice as every table is a different mission. Having a mix of requirements and setting expectations from the beginning helps people decide if this particular tourney is for them or not.
I do not generally post lists in advance, or really for the most part even require list submissions ahead of time at all. The exception of course is club champs where I go through everything pretty rigidly, but for the smaller one day events it's not required, and for the team tourney the expectation is the team captain checks the lists for accuracy.
I find that normally errors are just an honest mistake that we can normally correct as we go. Plus with no ITC points or prizes based on placing, it curbs a lot of the min-max/try to sneak something by.

Ya everything I faced that was FW was well within the limits of an average army can deal with this. At the points level I actually found the point for point effectiveness of the 3 primarchs were actually more effect. Magus, Mortarion and Guillimen were all there and I played all three. They are just huge force multipliers that really just help in every aspect of the game. Also they are all great models and really still not make or break the top table.
Overall I think it would be interesting to see FW compared to placement , Type of detachment compared to placement (was 9 CP the sweet spot at 1000 pts), Codex armies vs index armies compared to placement and number of models on the table compared to placement. I think that could show off some interesting result
