first day the fifteen undefeated players (and their list style) from Frontline Gaming - so three out of the top 15 are commander tau lists... pretty crazy.... but almost everything else is imperium:
Your Top 15 undefeated factions and players: I decided to list the style of list instead of just the faction. There are a lot more intricacies to a lot of these lists, but most people condense a well-tuned list into one easy to understand concept anyways. So I did it for you guys.
Dustin Lane (9 Commander Suit Tau)
Doug Johnson (Imperium Soup)
Brandon Grant (Astra Militarum Hoard Guard)
Tony Myers (Space Marine Flyers and Guilliman)
Aaron Hayden (Renegane Knights + Magnus + Brimstones)
Adam Gati (Craftworld Ynnari)
Anthony Villa (5 Commanders + Yvarha)
Domagoj Mitrovic (Chaos Daemons, List not posted)
Paul Mckelvey ( The PM Special, + 4 Commanders)
John McCool (Like, a Billion Stormboyz and a Giant Squiggoth)
Kyle Watson (Dark Angel Dreadnoughts and 2 Fire Raptors)
Matt Barlow (Hoard Guard with not just Conscripts)
Phi Tracy (Guilliman + Whirlwinds and Stalkers)
Mitch Pelham (Stormlord + Drop Troopers)
Brian Hart (Militarum Tempestus + a Guard Firebase)

The Tau side seems about right. Every time I sit down to make a tourament list it ends up with 5-6 commanders cause they are too point effective not to take compared to all the other suits. A little suprised there isnt more harlies in there. Looks like imperials are king of the ring currently.

The Ynnari is almost guaranteed almost all Harlequins + Yvraine, do that's your Harlequins there. The Ynnari special rule is straight up better than any of the individual factions so there's no point in running non-Ynnari.

Top five lists here: bloodofkittens.com/blog/2017/08/01/bay-area-open-2017-top-lists-pics/wouldn't chase the meta too hard though, as in six months from now this will be TOTALLY different with 10 codeci down but from what this says: Astra Militarium are back in a big way (top two spots) Bobby G can still kick ass Commander spam is currently a thing Apparently Y'narri wraithlists are pretty brutal (I'd imagine so!)

I wouldn't know anything about this. Edit: Actually, 2 variations I didn't expect. 1. Yncarne over Yvraine. 2. 2x D-scythe/1x Wraithcannon, rather than the other way around. I guess for the points cost you wouldn't be able to fit much in, maybe a unit of 10 naked guardians, which won't do much of anything.

The Tau lists got heavily outgunned by the Guard ones though, it was kinda sad to see the rampant munchkining going on. I watched a few of the games they streamed, including the top table at the end of Sunday. Brandon Grant seemed like a dick, there was a bunch of arguing over rules, and at one point Reece actually came over and gave him shit for slow playing.
I think they finished their match like, almost an hour past the intended time limit.
And then there's the lists themselves; I just kind of wonder what the point is. This is the kind of stuff that permeates toxic tournament culture, because this is where your standard netlists come from, and people will go on to recreate this stuff to play at their own clubs, and so on, and so on.
I dunno. I still think that the general attitude is backwards. It's not the books, or the lists we build them from that need to change. It's the attitudes of the people playing that needs readjusting.

That's the main reason I really enjoy our local scene. The crazy netlist crap just doesn't hit here, and if it does it's an isolated list that doesn't really get the person anywhere.
Solution is to stop catering to that dickhead crowd. ie: Judge comes over and gives the guy shit for slow playing the opponent to cheat a win should be immediately followed by giving a full loss to the person doing it and a full win to the opponent. Guy complains and bitches about it and argues like an ass, kick him out. It's not like these giant GT's are hurting for attendees.
I agree I watch some of these games and I immediately think "who is this fun for?"
I know some people like heading off to these big events, but really it doesn't really sound like fun to me in the least.
That's why I always do the following with my tournies:
- there's always a sports score component - there's always other soft scores - there's no financial incentive to winning - prizes are draws - ZERO ITC points will ever be given
Plus as a community we in general look down on WAAC lists. I hear more people ask "is my list too rough?" then anyone asking "is my list strong enough?"
And our tourneys are full to the brim, and lately so are our tables on Saturdays. Sure most of that is the relief that 8th edition brought to the game - but really what are we excited about? balance and fun in the game - not anything about the new edition bringing more WAAC lists.
Sorry, but how I look at it is if someone wants to be a raging jerk and make the experience at a tourney unfun for their opponents - stay home. I'd rather have 10 brand new players having fun and a great time than 40 ultra competitive jerks trying to prove they're the greatest toy soldier player in the world.
That guy on the stream only succeeded in looking like an asshole.... so who cares if he won a game?

Have you watched Blood of Kittens interviewing Brandon Grant? The guy seemed like the most smugly superior piece of work...like, absolutely talking down to the interviewer, dismissive of his opponents. I'm sure I could learn something about play on the table from the guy, but he didn't seem much like someone I'd care to spend a couple hours across from.
