Finished my kitbashed Malakim Phoros. Made quite a few changes form what I had originally planned, like the colour of the tabard and helmet. Also word of advice, if you are painting gold armor, go with Retributor gold and not the Game Color stuff. Ret gives better coverage and dries less thick. Also thanks to Shannon for the 'Nid head.

I'll have to see if I have enough painted points. But I already know I won't have enough to be anywhere near competitive lol.

I'll have to see if I have enough painted points. But I already know I won't have enough to be anywhere near competitive lol. With 20 custom missions (and ZERO book missions) club champs is a whole different way to look at competitive. In fact with only half the points coming from battle points, other things (painting/sportsmanship/early bird bonus) actually add up to be a HUGE part of it.
You've obviously got the painting skills to get great marks there... plus there's a specific trophy JUST for painting... and all the prizes are draw prizes (outside of the best overall/general/painting trophies) so there's a LOT for someone attending without having to worry about top tier competitive lists (as in there's literally only one trophy for that)

After over a year of laying around as a grey brick of plastic, I finally finished the Death Company Stormraven. Tried to do this the fastest and easiest way I knew how while using the tips from one of Duncan's tutorials www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_PqPVfUmW8Base still feels pretty bare so maybe in the future I'll add something to it.

I suddenly feel incredibly inadequate.
Excellent stuff.

Sanguinary Priest. Removed the chainsword for a Power Sword and ditched the back pack for a jump pack. Now he's ready to make all those already scary Death Company S5.

Looks absolutely great. Really digging the power sword - I know it's nitpicking something that's already beyond my abilities, but I think if you went back and updated Phoros' sword to look like this one it'd improve the model just a ton.
When I used to help run Games Day I'd hang around with the Daemon judges, and I know that looking at him they'd point out that the lightning effect on the sword is both the weakest part of the model AND the part that draws the eyes in automatically. To stress I mean this in the most constructive way possible, and both models are insanely good, but in my eyes it's the difference between "holy shit wow" and "really winning awards".

I agree, the Lightning I feel was a mistake to put in and not all that well done. I may go back one day to fix it but for now I still have my army list I want to get complete. Thanks for the feedback though, I always like to hear peoples opinions on what can be done better.

Haha, I know that feeling - always more models to do.
I credit most of my painting development to having some top-level competition guys critique my stuff, so I like to offer my thoughts if I have them.

You know what I think?
I think the days of people looking at my models and thinking they're well painted are numbered. Looks amazing man that's some insane skill.
