Ok, so I was talking to a friend, and he may try getting into this hobby. Alright. Now, the thing is, he isn't sure if he should go with Age of Sigmar, or with 40k. I've been trying to help him, but have somewhat limited knowledge of the various factious. So, I turn to you guys for help.
Now, he mentioned to me that he'd most likely want a faction good at melee, so that he can smash though the enemy. Also, this would be the first time he ever plays a game like this, so maybe a faction that's fairly easy to use? Then again, the melee focus and feeling powerful is the main thing.
So, if you guys have any suggestions for me to pass on to him, please let me know.
Also, if this is posted in the wrong place, please let me know as well. I figured that since it applies to both warhammer games it would be best to post here, but I've been wrong before.

The first thing that comes to mind for me since he is looking for aos and 40k. Is khorne daemons good at melee and can have some big daemons. Also can be used for both systems so cost efficient

I was also going to suggest if he isn't sure what game system to play, daemons can play both. But with these games, since it's expensive to get started, and a lot of stuff to paint, I always recommend going with what army you like the LOOK of and playstyle of first and foremost. If you don't like how the models look you're not going to want to assemble/paint them. If you don't like how the army plays, you're going to get either bored or frustrated when they don't play the way you want!
AOS and 40K are very similar in a lot of ways, so it makes it very easy (now - it did NOT used to be this way!) for players to transition between both systems.
There's also a difference in the community size for both games, which has benefits both ways for a new player:
40k - by far the largest and most established group here currently. This is good because you can very easily find an opponent who knows what's going on. This is not so good because this player is likely not going to be new, so you may be facing an optimized tourney list on your first game, which can be super rough when you're new. If a new person is looking at getting into 40k, I'd be clear with your opponent that you are new and looking to learn. There are some great players locally that will teach new players and not get too crazy competitive against a new player.
AOS - a smaller community and a newer game system to most people other than the small core group that's been playing for the past couple years since launch. This is good because you're more than likely to get a game in with a newer player as well, or a less "optimized" list as the community is smaller so into more narrative/fun games than tourney level play. This is not so good in some ways because sometimes on AOS night there's only a few players, which is why we've been discussing moving to Sundays (well not this week due to club champs) to try and get out more people.
Primarily combat armies: (you have a good selection of combat armies in both game systems)
AOS:
Khorne daemons, nurgle daemons, slaanesh daemons, slaves to darkness (chaos mortals)/everchosen, flesh eater courts or any other death army, ANY destruction army (ironjaws or Ogres come to mind), sylvaneth, stormcast eternals
40k:
Blood angels, space wolves, chaos space marines, khorne daemons, nurgle daemons, slaanesh daemons, tyranids,
