www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsNiOrxC4acNick Navanti has been posting some battle reports on Night at the Game Table showing off tactics and in general just showing how a high level player can identify and exploit a weakness in the enemy list and mission. It doesn't get mentioned in the video, but this whole thing wouldn't of happened if the Space Wolves player had just 1 unit of troops deployed on his objective. So, to those of you who consider running troop-light or with no troops at all. Consider this could happen to you!

The amount of tournaments I've played in I always see players get fixated on killing the enemy instead of remembering the mission, I've won many a game by sneaking off with a win by remembering to go for the objectives.

I think this just shows that open war mission cards are terrible moreso than obsec
Nick says it best at the end - what he said: not competitive... it's stupid... not fun for anyone... don't play maelstrom for competitive play, or even casual play.
lol.. oh Nick tell us how you really feel?
here's a real game with Nick at the same club:

my favourite quote ever from Nick from the above video:
"I don't know what you filthy casuals do but this isn't 40k" (re: open war cards)
(he was laughing when he said it... he's funny, not just a douche)

Is it not a rule any more that one unit can't control more then one objective.
Also that's what happens. Tho there is good and bad matches ups. He did say he was schooled the last match.

Is it not a rule any more that one unit can't control more then one objective. I didn't play much of 7th, but I don't recall this was ever a rule at any point. I doubt Nick would get a rule about controlling multiple objectives wrong in a published battle report tho.

It was in 7th I just assumed it was still a thing (I just have the primer not the full book)

nope, one unit can control multiple objectives.
You also don't have to touch a unit on pile ins... watch the video I linked above - which was the first game Nick played... it's like a primer on movement, pile in, trapping and positioning... friggin slick.
watching it kind of made me want to try a power level open war style tourney
(each round draw the cards everyone has to play - mission and twist)
but luckily for all of you I posted highlander first before I saw it..lol
