So I'm bored with painting 40k and wanted to spice things up so I'm going to be logging my progress here. I'm excited to see this army come together and we'll see if I can keep up the pace I had when painting my Tyranids. I bought the Soul Wars box yesterday and got all the nighthaunts built. And today I got a chance to sit down for a couple hours and I managed to crank out this bad boy! imgur.com/gallery/DFwMOJv

Cool scheme - plus that model is awesome. The nighthaunts have such a nice model line with so many standouts (those banshees alone make me want the army)

Yeah, I'm definitely more drawn to the models than the game. But depending what I can power through paint wise this week I'm hoping to come on Thursday to try a game.

it actually plays out very similar to 8th edition 40k with a few minor differences (ie: spells happen first rather than after movement in 40k; roll off for turn priority- etc.)

Day 2: 20 chainrasps imgur.com/gallery/sq2G5peZoned out while watching bobs burgers and these guys were done in about 3 hours this evening. Tomorrow I'm hoping to finish a hero or two because I won't get a chance to paint in the evening. There's a chance I'll have the box painted by Thursday night.

that's some good progress!
Are you using the nighthaunt paints to get the ethereal effect?

Using the niklah(sp?) oxide paint, one of the old green washes, and the hellion green as a dry brushed highlight.

Day three: executioner, wizard, and the lock man. (haven't memorized names yet) imgur.com/gallery/WSKNj9TGot these finished this morning, except for their bases (waiting on them drying) and some final highlights. Just wanted to get something done because I'm working til midnight tonight. Just the reapers and glaveguys and the box is painted. Gonna try and hit Nexus before work to find something else to add to the force.

what about this? www.games-workshop.com/en-CA/Start-Collecting-Malignantsseems to add ethereal cavalry through the hexwraiths, another battleline unit with the spirit hosts and the mortis engine (which you'd have to use 180 ally points as it's a deathmage) seems like the biggest bang for the bucks point wise as it's 460 points worth but if you're sticking straight nighthaunts you can't go wrong with those amazing banshee models....

I was very close to buying the malignants box, but the bonuses for pure nighthaunts seem great so I'm stuck with just them. (not sure how allies work yet). So I bought a box of revenants cause they seem to synergize with the jailer guy well. And ordered two boxes of spirit hosts cause they look cool and crank out mortal wounds.

for a 2000 point army you can have up to 400 points be allies and not lose any of your bonuses. Allies just can't be the general of the army and your nighthaunt bonuses wouldn't apply to them.
the revenants and spirit hosts though are solid choices.

The reapers are expensive point wise, even if they fill a battleline requirement. And the souls war box doesn't give you enough for an actual unit so I figured I should grab the spirit hosts so I have my 3 battleline figured out.

Day four: bladeghast revenants and glaive-somethings imgur.com/gallery/JajpXyLJust waiting on bases to dry so I can give them some definition. I definitely sacrificed quality to finish off this stuff. I probably should have wet blended black to blue to white instead of doing blue and dry brushing white and black to build up the blends, but they look fine on the table and keeps the army looking uniform and took way less time and effort. This actually finishes off all the stuff I have for nighthaunts (sans the four reapers from the box but you need 10 to make a unit) Hopefully my order through Nexus doesn't take long and then I'll have to see what I want to grab next.

Finished Lady Olynder and today I bought, built and 80% painted a black coach Pictures: imgur.com/gallery/sBJnOOKJust have a few random smaller units to paint and I'll be super close to 2k points. Debating getting the night haunt endless spell pack, anyone know if they're any good?

Those look really nice! man you're fast at this!
Both of those are super cool centerpiece models.
I've only played against the nighthaunt endless spells once so can't really comment but they seemed pretty good from what I saw.
