I have an odd question. If someone was to pay the entry fee, but then life happened and they could no longer make it, would they lose said fee? Not just for this, but for tournaments at the nexus in general.

If I can book time off from work, and I have my army all assembled by then, I may look into possibly joining. Would be my first ever tournament, and most likely my first game of AoS 2e that wasn't a learning game, hahaha.

Not just for this, but for tournaments at the nexus in general. in general if you pay for a tournament then don't show up the day of, you don't get your money back. Nexus will at times give a refund so long as you cancel well enough in advance... but it's up to them...

That's fair. Well, it's only $15, so not that bad really. Don't really have to worry.
Do I need to go to the nexus in person to pay, or can it be done online? Like I said, completely new to this, hahaha.

There's an option to pay online. You can pay in advance, or just the day of for most tournaments, as long as you register online to book your spot. Only tournament that registration alone doesn't guarantee a spot is Club Champs (that I know of at least), you need to pay for that because of this scenario specifically.
Also there's swag you get for going to Club Champs, so that's a thing for the money too.

Well, I don't think I'm anywhere near good enough for club champs, hahaha. To be fair, I'm only interested in this one as it says it is good for new players. I placed an orde2r for some stuff, so I need to wait for that to come in, and once it is in I need to assemble it. As such, this tournament may very well be the first time I'd use the army.
For what it's worth, they likely won't be painted, but lately I've been doing some research into an airbrush so that I can prime (and as a result, paint) year round.

you can be completely unpainted for this tourney and completely brand new (although it's highly recommended that you read through the core rules a few times to become familiar with the basics! - it's only a few pages...lol)
we have new player friendly tournaments for 40K as well... several of our tournies a year (just not really club champs - although there's nothing really stopping a new player from attending as you get bracketted out of the nasty lists after the first couple games anyways)
If you're not sure if you can make it - you can register with the "pay offline" option that way you're not out any money if you can't attend. for 40k tournies we may be switching to the "pay to get a spot only" model just because we sell out... but AOS is not nearly as competitive for the spots so feel free to sign up with the other option.

Don't forget to sign up if you're thinking of attending!
Helps me know how much material to print out and how many tables to set up
thanks!

I am thinking of attending, I'd just rather not sign up before actually getting my models in the mail, hahaha.

Played my first game of Sigmar yesterday. Woowee stuff dies fast! Got a couple of things wrong (mostly army construction I think) but other than that, lots of fun!
