I haven't gotten this game, but for now it seems the main differences from the first are that there is 3 campaigns (Imperium, Necron, Tyranid), and all 12 factions from the original tabletop game are there. As for the story, it is the first video game set I nthe 8th edition post gathering storm lore. The game is available for PC on steam.
I'll try to get it later on.

Is the combat turn based or RTS?

If it is anything like the first game, it is real time, but while playing singleplayer you can pause to issue orders.

Pausing may help, but I don't know. That's what I loved about Blood Bowl as it was a direct copy of the tabletop version. Mordheim is good as well. Maybe I'll look into it as BFG was one of my favourite tabletop games ever.

Its ship combat with some resource management in that you get systems for more money to buy ships.
