Yeah, that's more of why I'd thought maybe taking him from codex CSM then selecting Death Guard as his legion would work. You're likely right though, it'll get FAQ'd to death that he doesn't confer his buff to those "fancy" CSM armies that get their own books.

Unfortunately, you can't pick Death Guard or Thousand Sons (or Fallen) as your Legion for any units in the CSM codex, so that's a non-starter. If only...
