Was lots of fun. Some great games I didnt get to see the standings, do we know if they are going to post it? I took a photo ill upload it. *** can't get the stupid photo to compress to the allotted size so ill just type it out. So no one was anywhere near maxing. It put it in perspective I went 1-3 in terms of "winning" by having more points but I was within 8 pts for each game and ended up tied for 4th. 9th is definitely a different breed where winning tournaments is all about going for objectives, and sneaking out 2-3 points here and there on secondary's not necessarily "Winning" the table.

yes, 9th is a different animal for tournaments completely... have a plan to get minimum of 50 points per game. If you have less than 50, you must make it up in the next game to have the chance at top five. Essentially the top four all averaged around 50 / game or slightly more. Even the top 3 were over 100 points LESS than max score. You do NOT have to pull a 90 every game in order to win a tourney in 9th. But if you're not posting at least 30 points in the first 2-3 turns it's going to be a struggle.
This is where some secondaries like banners, scramblers are great in that you can reliably get 10 points... you don't always have to try to go for 15 on a secondary... if you grab 30 from primary, and 30 across all your secondaries, that is a SOLID score - even if you lose the game.
Also I've noticed (as I got to simply observe games this tourney) quite a few people are doing the hold back and shoot style from 8th. That just doesn't work, even if you only spend the first two turns doing it. You MUST move in 9th from turn one onwards, or there is no way to get a good score on primary - which is 50% of your total score. Primary scoring is completely in your control - you must have a plan from list creation "How am I scoring primary?"

Yeah the current means for winning seems to be bumrushing the middle ground to snag objectives while pushing the enemy off as many as possible.
As a result the requirements seem to be a mix of nice durable units that can't be shot/CQCed off objectives while having skirmishers/melee units you can toss in the enemy's face to keep them occupied. As a result the traditional 'castle' is limited since you can only cover one or two objectives with it (depending on how big your infantry groups etc are).

I think that in 8th you could focus on killing the enemy as your path to victory - objectives etc were not a big deal. The 9th Edition Terrain rules combined with missions, primaries and secondaries mean that simply focusing on the enemy might not work. You need to have a plan for the primaries and secondaries.
You need to challenge the mid-field Turn 1 and 2 and be dominating the mid-field from Turn 3 onwards. Resilient units with the ability to be mid-field by Turn 2 are great. While its important to control your own zone, sitting back in a castle and shooting will rarely work. My Deathwing Knights didn't kill a thing in the last game, but they took the opponent's objective and held it for a bunch of VP (including the mission secondary).
My clutch stratagem used to be Weapons from the Dark Age for plasma damage. Its gone now, but in its place my clutch stratagem for 2 CP lets a unit shoot without stopping its action.
Regarding the tourney, the format was really cool. List building was a challenge - I think I was on version 20. A nice variety of lists and four, fun challenging games!
