So, I've seen this many times on reddit, to the point that I just made a post there about it, and decided I'd ask here as well for a more local opinion.
The subject in question? Armies made from left over sprue bits being allowed in tournaments.
Basically, every now and then I see somebody posting a "poorhammer" model on reddit and other sites. These models are approximations of official GW models, but made out of bits of sprue. Mostly Necrons (Called Spruecrons by many), but I've seen people make Sprue Space Marines and other such things as well. Whenever this happens, people tend to praise the creativity of the person. There is also usually a person that says "The best part is that since it is GW plastic, it is legal to go at their tournaments".
So, I would sometimes ask said commenters for a source, or proof, or something. They would usually reply along the lines of "I heard it online somewhere, so trust me on this". Well, either that or ignore the question. So I googled it.
My google search revealed that GW run tournaments are very strict, and you aren't really even allowed to convert your models very much. I also found no proof whatsoever of a Sprue army being allowed into a GW run tournament.
So, I have to ask, have any of you ever heard of this supposed army in a tournament? What are your thoughts on it?
I'm probably overthinking something that is an inside community joke that I just didn't get....
As a small side thing, even if a sprue army is allowed in a GW tournament due to being GW plastic, it would be far too easy to cheat the system. I mean, many companies make plastic miniatures on sprues. What would be stopping someone from using their Bolt Action sprues (Warlord Games) as an example.
