Title. What do y'all use these days? The old GW clear plastic disc and stalk have always been unpopular but it's been ages since I've substituted one and surely there are better options than there used to be. Almost all my jetbikes need theirs replaced with something due to cracks.

Brass rod is my go to... That way you can have a base that matches your army... I've also seen some nice examples of using terrain on the base (a crystal, pillar etc) to be used as the anchor point

What kind of brass rod do you use, if I wanted to pick some up. Do you cut them down yourself? How hard is brass to cut?

Brass rod is easy to cut, especially with tin snips... I used to get mine from leading edge but amazon has a lot on there of varying thicknesses
I'd go pretty thin... They are alot easier to work with the thinner they are

Perfect I already have tin snips so I guess I need to find me some brass rods!

Was about to post new thread when I saw this one.
so I'm planning on doing something similar, with a heldrake, but I'm planning on sculpting some heldrake breath and using the breath to support the full mini.
seeing how the join between flame and mini will be the stress point, what gauge would you guys think?
my plan is to have the armature wire going thru the neck, head, thru the flamebreath, down and through the base and curled into the base bottom so it's flush.
as for the mini itself, I'm probably gonna rotate the wings, so green stuff would probably be involved, adding to th weight.
o.O thinking caps engage lol.
I'm thinking maybe like 1/4 inch rod?

1/4 inch should do it... I'd make sure it was continuous through the base, flame, head, neck and into the body
it's a lot of drilling work (and you'd certainly want to do this disassembled) but if it didn't take the weight it would snap or bend and then be hard to fix, so I'd go with the "better safe than sorry" method.

I have a feeling it's not rigid enough for my intent, but I see videos of people using ot to support clay sculpts so it's gotta be pretty strong g right?

I ended up going with an aluminum armature wire I got from Michael's ( 10$ for 20ft roll, it's a .2in diameter, and I used the 30% off coupon, so 7$)
I'll update to let you know how it holds up for future reference.
