Just in time to make my list for Saturday 30 points over...... www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/SEC7DZXV8M0W04cG.pdfHowever it does seem to have some good changes with balancing faction battle tactics, unless that was already a thing? Points changes. This sucks for my Lumineth, when I wasn't running the "meta" shooting build anyways. Hitting the most popular units while not providing any real buff to the less popular ones, has the odd effect of just making it better lean harder into what was the most efficient build. Like making Teclis 20 points more doesn't mean you cut Teclis, it means you cut your other support spell caster. Lots of points drops for Slaves, I thought they were already winning lots, is this just internal balance within the book? Gitz, seems like needed nerfs to their auto take units.

well that was unexpected!
Guess slaves to darkness players will be pretty happy though?

Interesting change to arcane tome Probably overdue, it's been an auto-take in a lot of armies since day 1. Even more since the amulet was nerfed into the ground.

Yeah it has been an auto for me. I think it still is for me at least but that might say more about the stormcast item list then the tome itself.

I have no use for the arcane tome in this incarnation. The bearer can only cast mystic shield, arcane bolt, or endless spells. No more melee hero with flaming weapon. Can't be used to give a wizard a second cast. Mystic shield is nice, but I think I have better uses for an artifact slot in most cases.
Oh, and no more giving the magic book to a khorne character. But this probably should have existed from day one, haha.
Not really salty though. It was too useful for too long. There may be others in this situation, but I mostly feel bad for stormcast. Their book artifacts are junk.
The list I played last night increased by 10 points. +50 from cows and -40 from the best goats. Still leaves me with a legal list, fortunately, and the changes don't surprise me in the slightest.
The doombull alone doesn't seem like he warrants that price tag, his attack profile is the same as the champ in the bullgor unit. But that command ability (charge in fight phase) makes him a must have if running cows. So as a whole, I get it. Better than tacking those extra points onto the units.
I wouldn't bring him if he wasn't buffing the beef, but that is a necessary task.

Stormcast aren't the only book with junky artifacts lol. In warclans you almost always wanted the amulet and later the tome, the only exception was glowin tatoos.

I assumed as much, but wasn't sure. Those first two books have definitely been left behind.

Doesn't look like my army was effected. That's good, as I just got it to 2000 points, and would hate to have to build a bunch of extra stuff to switch things around until it's 2K again, hahaha.

The list I am bringing to the tournament came in at exactly 2000 and I was a little worried but Stormcast had no points changes this time around so we are still good to go.

Don't forget to check the FAQ section as well. Some armies got erratas.

I think the Arcane Tome nerf is appropriate, even if I was using it with my SCE. My Lord Relictor was using it to be a bad-ass, while my Knight Draconis could also use it to have Celestial Blades.
I would never use in on a Khorne Hero, but some sneaky gitz could have...They should extend that restriction to Dwarves.
The Rally restrictions are a good start, but I think they need to take it a bit farther.

I think if they are worried about rally, removing all those 4+ versions would have been a good start. I had that for a bit with Beasts. Was glad to see it gone. It's too much on anything stronger than a goblin, and should never exist on a ranged unit.
Listening to the interview from the designer on youtube, it sounded like they didn't want their change to have much impact in a casual game.
They were just trying to tone down the spikes of efficiency it could have on double reinforced units bringing back a whole lot of bodies, or those instances where someone got super lucky and rolled three sixes to bring back multiple dragons/fulminators/varanguard ect.

Rally is just... not a good rule. It's so mathematically ineffectual by default and just puts game results in the hand of god by letting someone maybe bingo resurrecting a massive amount of value for potentially nothing.
I'd actually say it's even worse than huge swing rolls like priority cos there isn't really any counterplay, and much like summoning, factions that have rally bonuses are just a slog to play into in the worst way.
